Florida Supreme Court rules convicted felons must pay off fines to victims before voting

Voting is not a right, it is a privilege. Voting is a tangible which requires registration, therefore it cannot be a right. Intangibles such as speech, association, opinion, self-defense, due process, etc. are natural rights because they (theoretically) cannot be taken away since the government does not provide them.

Tangibles, on the other hand, are privileges granted by the government. These include driver's licenses, marriage licenses, voter registrations, public assistance programs, etc.

Only law-abiding citizens, preferably those who pay taxes since they have a greater vested interest in government accountability, and felons who have completed their punishment requirements should be allowed to vote.

Any RIGHT can be removed with DUE PROCESS.. Felons have had due process and as a punishment their right to vote was removed. Until they serve out their sentences and pay restitution/fines they have not completed the punishment. The RIGHT is not returned until they FINISH the punishment.

Nowhere in the U.S. Constitution does it say that the privilege and duty of voting "shall not be infringed."

Yeah it's a right that is defended by law if someone is denide their right to vote by unlawful means, but it is privilege to vote otherwise meaning no one is being forced to vote. I agree that prisoners must be in completion of their debt owed to society before they are allowed full rights given back to them.

Gun ownership is so important it was the 2nd amendment right after our 1st amendment rights of free speech. The left hates both of them, we get it they prefer a dictatorship and slavery to the state.

Excellent law and ruling in Florida. In Tennessee, for starters, the state requires that court fines, fees and outstanding child support must be paid before registering to vote after release from custody, and then you still might be denied. If voting were important to them, they should have considered it before committing serious offenses against other members of society.
