For the past week all you have heard is gloom-n-doom over Hurricane Erin. Never mind it was predicted to be a "fish storm" early on.

Oh, it will be right rough on Hatteras island and such with over wash but that happens there almost every year.

Build this close to the water on the Banks and you get what you get.

You'd have thought this storm was going to destroy the East Coast on the nightly news last night, the lead story compared it in size to Katrina and then moved on to residents of OBX fleeing for their lives ahead of the storm. Sigh.

And, of course, the next story was about a plane close to the airport that had flames flickering from one engine with the comment "passengers were texting goodbye to their families".

Every news story I’ve read made it perfectly clear that Erin was NOT projected to make landfall in the US

What stories were you reading?

No, I'm bitching becase of all the hype surrounding not much of a much.

That's why people die when the real deal comes along.....Alert Fatigue.

You mean MEDIA hype?

Better to just follow the storm reports from the National Hurricane Center instead.

What hype?

They’re going up how quickly it became a category 5.

They also made it crystal clear that it wasn’t expected to make landfall.

What exactly is the problem? You’re not explaining your position well at all beyond some vague, knee-jerk “media bad” ranting.

When they started narrating the weather as some sort of terrorist threat requiring more government because be very ascared, I turned it all off.

But I do like to watch the weather itself without all of the middlemen running that whole be very ascared gambit.

Probably gonna be some tasty waves with this one, though, since it's running up the coast without landing. Just all in the timing of when you go out there, I guess.

The surf fishing will be good too!

Again, what are you people watching?

If they’ve been upfront about the fact that it isn’t expected to make landfall how can they be said to be fear mongering?

I don’t get it
