Looks like a certain amount of BS to me...When I was in, it wasn't any big deal if you were an NCO and your squeeze wasn't.....But fraternization between officers and the hoi polloy was different.

Well, in the Navy, if you were an E-6 or below, you could generally get away with dating someone who was of a lesser rank. Matter of fact, was stationed with a dude in Millington TN who was an E5, who started dating an E3, and eventually they got married. Nobody said much about that, because they were both enlisted.

However.......................Chiefs and Officers (the khaki crowd), were strictly forbidden from having anything to do with the enlisted when it came to intimate relationships.

Sucked too. I remember being stationed in Newport RI back in the early to mid 90's, and became a member of a dating group. If you saw someone's ad that interested you, you called and left a message in their mailbox, and if they were interested, they called you back and you talked, leading up to dating. Well, I saw an ad that looked promising, and I called. She answered back, and we spent about 2 hours talking on the phone because we had so much in common. I finally got around to asking her what she did for a living, and she said she was a JAG officer on the base, and she was a LT. Well, right there I knew it wasn't allowed when she said she was an officer. I explained to her that I couldn't date her because I was an enlisted person. She said she understood, and we ended it then. A couple of days later, she came by PSD just to see who I was, and man.................I was bummed out again, because she was very good looking.

We grant women equal rights without them serving In combat in the military. It has always been that way.

I served alongside women since I first hit shore duty in '86. Then, when I went back to sea in '89, they were starting to allow women on combat vessels.

Retired in 2002, and never had a problem serving alongside women. Some of the best people I've ever worked with have been female.

most women cannot physically do the same physical stuff as men--this is a physical fact
infantry have to haul a lot of stuff, far---etc ...
1. there are not many snipers compared to the other MOSs
2. snipers have to haul a lot of stuff, also...they just don't pull a trigger
these Soviets were not the standard infantry/not doing common infantry tasks

Has the Corps lowered various physical requirements for women in boot camp? I ask because initially, back when the male/female military stuff all started under Clinton, I was told at Camp Lejuene the Marines were the only service at the time that had not lowered anything to accommodate the ladies. Was also told by Army and Navy bigwigs they had set different standards for women, but no idea if the AF did also.

Also know the Navy was having lots of problems with combined male/female training at Great Lakes Training Center because their geniuses decided to house men and women in the same barracks, albeit on segregated floors. Apparently horny young recruits had no problems circumventing the locks or whatever between floors because pregnancies skyrocketed.

...when I was in -the early to late 80s, they didn't have to to as much physically/fitness tests/etc

In the Navy, I was a PRT Coordinator (fancy way of saying exercise trainer), and yes, the physical standards for pushups, situps, and the run were harder for men than they were for women.

If I remember correctly, I think the women had an extra minute to a minute and a half for the run portion, and their passing score for situps and pushups was about 10 fewer than what it was for men.

And, the body fat percentages for women were higher as well. Men had to stay at 22 percent or below, while women had to be at 25 percent or below, because women store fat differently than men and have more of it in the form of breast tissue and their butts.

I was in 68-71 abd all enlisted could fraternize this is bs not to mention they married.
