Reminds me of a high-profile case here in the USA. John Orr, who was a firefighter captain and arson investigator, is currently doing life in a California prison on several counts of arson and murder.

I've read a couple of books about the case and seen several T.V. documentaries about it too. He set hundreds of fires. Like this guy in France, he started with setting brush fires. However, he later started burning occupied commercial buildings.
