Well, it's not very often that we get good news on the COVID 19 front, but there is some good hope right now. Seems that in Finland, they have trained dogs to sniff out if a person has COVID 19, and so far, they have had almost 100 percent success in detecting it. The process is quick, easy, and non invasive. If the dog detects COVID in someone, they are then sent for a regular test just to make sure.

Four Covid-19 sniffer dogs have begun work at Helsinki airport in a state-funded pilot scheme that Finnish researchers hope will provide a cheap, fast and effective alternative method of testing people for the virus.

A dog is capable of detecting the presence of the coronavirus within 10 seconds and the entire process takes less than a minute to complete, according to Anna Hielm-Björkman of the University of Helsinki, who is overseeing the trial.

“It’s very promising,” said Hielm-Björkman. “If it works, it could prove a good screening method in other places” such as hospitals, care homes and at sporting and cultural events.

Yeah, but if the dog can "smell" the virus, they can get infected by it.

Not good since they say animals are vulnerable to it.

If......this is the case, this should be classified as animal cruelty.

The overseers of the Finnish health district already sold out the Finns' nationalized health care data to the Estonians.

They don't actually get close to the person. They take a small cloth, have the person rub it on their neck, and then they give the cloth to a dog to smell. They aren't sure if the virus is what gives off the scent, or if it's the way that a person's sweat smells when sick. But, then again, there are many cases where animals have been able to detect other ailments such as cancer.

And yeah, I agree, if the dogs end up catching COVID by detecting, they need to get another method, but apparently, that isn't the case as the dogs have been kept healthy and happy so far.

That's not necessarily true. There are many viruses and what not that are harmful to one species, and does nothing to another. I'm pretty sure it's actually a fairly rare thing... But when it DOES jump species, we really need to pay attention. Because it's likely very nasty.
