Has the leadership of the FDA lost their " Damned Minds" do they want to annihilate a large portion of the population of America or for that matter the entire planet. I am referring to their consideration of the Merck drug "molnupiravir" for approval to treat Covid 19. The selling point of this antiviral drug is that it is in "pill form" and if one only takes it for five days within five days of early detection of Covid 19 there is like a thirty percent lower risk of being needed to be admitted into the hospital for the disease. The glitch, or might I say the reason to stop breathing for as long as one can involuntarily do so, is the way the drug works, I only went to the level of high school biology on the science front so excuse the crude explanation here. The SARS Cov 2 virus which is the virus behind Covid 19 has a genetic code, a RNA chain, a string of molecules that contain the genetic code of the virus; so when the coronavirus enters a human lung cell the viruses RNA chain is used to replicate the virus using the elements (proteins) in the human lung cell. The way molnupiravir works is that it monkeys around with the viruses RNA chain (RNA chains have at least four building blocks they are abbreviated G,A,C,U); specifically molnupiravir replaces the G building block with the A building block and replaces the C building block with the U building block. In other words, molnupiravir mutates the genetic code of the virus and what happens when the mutated virus is being replicated in the human lung cell it genetically mutates again into a state where it will no longer replicate. This isn't a one hundred percent fail safe process where a person takes molnupiravir all the viruses in their body mutate to this perfect state where the replication process in a person's lung cell will further mutate all the viruses so they will stop replicating. The cause for concern is that this genetic tampering of the virus will cause a mutation that will be able to evade the protections of currently administered vaccines for Covid 19 putting us back to square one where the country was back in March of 2020 where we had to have largely a nationwide shut down of the economy to stop the overwhelming of our health care system. To be frank if the country is faced with going back to this square one the harm to our and the world's economy will be devastating, it will cause extremely destructive levels of inflation and throw America and the world into a severe recession which will take a long time to recover from!
On so many different fronts this drug, molnupiravir, is alarming. If a person doesn't take the pill regiment for five straight days that could cause problems because five days is needed to with certainty wipe out the virus in most people if a person only takes it for like three days and all the person's viruses aren't wiped out but many left have genetic mutations this could possible lead to a variant being created that evades vaccines. If the FDA approves this pharmaceutical the molnupiravir pills as a practical matter will be widespread available throughout the country and human nature being what it is many people who are not a doctor will be playing doctor and they will cause people that have compromised immune systems to take molnupiravir and these pills won't be strong enough to wipe out the virus in these people and the molnupiravir mutated viruses will be incubating and further mutating possibly leading to a variant being created that evades vaccines!
This isn't a political commentary here many reputable authorities are sounding the same alarm: Dr. William A Hastletine in Forbes on November 1, 2021 and an article written by Jamie Smyth on December 5th 2021 in The Financial Times and an article written by Max Kozlov on December 13, 2021 in Nature. Even the FDA advisory panel recommending the drug only did so by a vote of thirteen to ten over safety concerns. Sure Merck stands to make billions of dollars if the FDA approves this drug but the welfare of the nation shouldn't be put at risk for the profit of a pharmaceutical company doing so is called letting greed run the country's pharmaceutical regulatory agency. Lastly, America has the Pfizer antiviral drug up for FDA consideration which works much differently than molnupiravir and does not have these safety concerns plus it is much more efficacious against Covid 19, the nation will be okay without this Merck drug! FDA let wisdom and virtue rule the day and deny the molnupiravir application!
