There are only two ways to reduce this overcrowding.
One. Release prisoners early. When they do you rush out screaming that Democrats are letting criminals out of jails.
The second is to build more jails and prisons. How many new prisons will we need to lock people up for a sufficient time to satisfy you? Double what we have? Triple?
How much will that cost? Even privatizing them cost money. We have to guarantee a certain number of prisoners for a certain number of years for a minimum price.
So how will we pay for this? Crank up higher taxes is the only way isn’t it? Are you now in favor of higher taxes?
You can’t have stiffer sentences without somewhere to keep them. Those places cost money. Money comes from taxes. Everyone wants to pay less tax. So how much more are you willing to pay for these sentences?
Gun bans do nothing but make people who will abide by them more vulnerable.
I don't think this guy should have been denied possession of a firearm when he was released, but if he is really dangerous, he is not one who should roam the streets. A person who is violent without just cause is an ideal candidate for long-term incarceration, but many times, such people end up getting street justice IF (big if) the people he would do unjust violence to are armed and prepared to defend themselves. The problem takes care of itself.
Which is why, in a free society, everyone should be armed.
The solution to the problem of prison overpopulation is to legalize all drugs. That would probably bankrupt the private prison industry (which I believe cannot be sustained in a free society). On top of that, kill the black market for drugs and a lot of gun violence goes with it.

You have to admit that abortions are the least efficient means of birth control, and certainly raises legitimate ethical issues. Maybe that shouldn't be the go-to for birth control?
That's all I am saying. Just from an efficiency standpoint, a pill costs next to nothing. An abortion is at least $5,000.

I wanted to separate this from all the other bullshit and GENUINLY thank you for your service. This deserves its own post.
Both my mom and my dad were Army and served in Vietnam. Dad was drafted and finished his tour as an E5 after receiving the bronze star with the "V" device (for battlefield valor). To this day, I have no idea why he was awarded the bronze because he would never talk about it. He suffered from PTSD for many years after, even up until he died.
So, separate from all this back and forth, sincerely, thank you for your service.

The Dojin-kai and the Seido-kai are Kyushu-based yakuza gangs, once part of the same faction founded in 1971 in Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture, by Isoji Koga. When the second generation Dojin-kai boss Seijiro Matsuo retired in May 2006, there was a fight over succession, and the group split into two factions, sparking a bloody gang war—where escalation seemed a matter of course. Five men linked to a deadly gang-related shootout Friday in Austin were released from custody after prosecutors declined to charge each of them with a pair of felonies, including first-degree murder, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned.
The brazen mid-morning gunfight, which left one shooter dead and two of the suspects wounded, stemmed from an internal dispute between two factions of the Four Corner Hustlers street gang, according to an internal police report and a law enforcement source with knowledge of the investigation.
The source said police sought to charge all five suspects with murder and aggravated battery. By Sunday morning, a Chicago police spokeswoman acknowledged the suspects had “been released without charges.”

Police struggle to stop flood of firearms into UK
Police and border officials are struggling to stop a rising supply of illegal firearms being smuggled into Britain, a senior police chief has warned.
Chief constable Andy Cooke, the national police lead for serious and organised crime, said law enforcement had seen an increased supply of guns over the past year, and feared that it would continue in 2019
The Guardian has learned that the situation is so serious that the National Crime Agency has taken the rare step of using its legal powers to direct every single police force to step up the fight against illegal guns.
The NCA has used tasking powers to direct greater intelligence about firearms to be gathered by all 43 forces in England and Wales.
Another senior law enforcement official said that “new and clean” weapons were now being used in the majority of shootings, as opposed to guns once being so difficult to obtain that they would be “rented out” to be used in multiple crimes.
Cooke, the Merseyside chief constable, told the Guardian: “We in law enforcement expect the rise in new firearms to continue. We are doing all we can. We are not in a position to stop it anytime soon.
“Law enforcement is more joined up now than before, but the scale of the problem is such that despite a number of excellent firearms seizures, I expect the rise in supply to be a continuing issue.”
The increasing supply of guns belies problems with UK border security and innovations by organised crime gangs. Smugglers have increasingly found new ways and innovative routes to get guns past border defences.
Cooke said that the dynamics of the streets of British cities had changed and that criminals were more willing to use guns: “If they bring them in people will buy them. It’s a kudos thing for organised criminals.”
Simon Brough, head of firearms at the NCA, said: “The majority of guns being used are new, clean firearms ... which indicates a relatively fluid supply.”
He said shotguns were 40% of the total, with an increase in burglaries to try and steal them.
Handguns are the next biggest category, most often smuggled in from overseas, with ferry ports such as Dover being a popular entry point into the UK for organised crime groups:
“We’re doing a lot to fight back against it,” Brough said, adding that compared to other European countries, the availability in the UK was relatively lower.

The number of shootings has been on the rise since 2013 and has in part being linked to the 2,000 drug supply chains identified as part of the country lines network.
Mr Brough said hand guns were being smuggled through eastern Europe, across nexus points in Belgium and the Netherlands and then onwards into the UK.
“Some of the methods criminal groups are using are incredibly sophisticated, for example, they are built into the interior of vehicles,” he said.
“The challenge at the border is the sheer volume of the operation.
“When a gun is coming in as a fast parcel, how can we find that? It’s a needle in a haystack.”
Shotguns lawfully held are being diverted into the criminal market via burglaries while other weapons are purchased blank and then converted.
Mr Brough said there was a trend towards “new and clean” guns being used for the first time that did not link to previous crimes.
“The source of them and availability leads to incidents such as we’ve seen this weekend,” he added.

It's the way our federal government was setup since it's founding. Our founders didn't want the people to become dependent on the federal government because that's how they obtain massive power over the people. They didn't want that.
