Oil is a fossil fuel burned for practical use in homes, businesses, etc. If the oil spill is thick enough and away from other combustible materials, they intentionally set them on fire to burn it off as oil doesn't emit all that much in hazardous emissions. Burning lithium brings out the hazmat units.

Therein is the primary difference in risk.

Accidents happen and sometimes they are disastrous to those in the vicinity of them. Palestine Ohio was one of those incidents that was tragic in its effect. And should inspire those in a position to do so to figure out more ways to prevent those accidents and minimize their disastrous effects.

I don't recall mentioning EVs at all. But I do think intellectual honesty does require evaluation and recognition of the downside of these vehicles that require massive amounts of metals of which the USA does not produce nearly enough, that come from countries that may or may not like us all that much and I don't know how the environmentalist religionist close their eyes to the massive environmental effect of them. They they also ignore the fact that all the large amounts of materials that to into the huge, heavy EV batteries are just as finite and limited as resources as is petroleum. And by the time you factor in the transportation of all components and the manufacturing process itself of an EV car, is it really all that much more 'green' than our standard gas guzzler? And because of the extra hazard of lithium battery fires, so far maybe no safer.

Remove tax breaks for EV development. The middle class should not be forced to pay for rich people's toys.

I would support tax breaks for the actual manufacturing facilities, so long as they follow all pollution control laws.

I would ban all "green" energy products that come from third world countries.

I don't see anyone on the right calling for mandates here or banning anything. I don't see anyone on the right suggesting EVs will ever be a reliable replacement for ICE. Most on the right have pretty much common sense when it comes to these things.

So I don't see any purpose in introducing toxicity to what should be a reasoned debate or suggesting people are saying what they are not saying.

Right now, the government subsidizes failure. That's why the speed of development is so painfully slow.

The FIA introduced new regulations for F1 racing. Thanks to those regs the best engine developers were able to increase the thermal efficiency of the power units from 30ish% to 50%. In TWO years.

No government money, just very smart people given a direction of research to follow.

I WANT EV vehicles to take over. But I want them to be better than what they replace.

They are far from that point.
