Evidence of The Holocaust

I heard that if you are in Germany and claim that only 5,999,999 Jews were killed by the Nazis rather than 6,000,000 Jews, you can be labeled a holocaust denier and prosecuted for a hate crime.

You heard wrong.

What is the limit to be considered a holocaust denier, in your opinion?

When World War II ended, there was still a considerable cadre of Germans (particularly fanatical young adults indoctrinated as Hitler Youth) who wanted desperately to reintroduce National Socialism to Germany.

When the crimes of The Holocaust became public knowledge, the idea of reintroducing Nazism to Germany became too tough a sell, even if you could convince people there were benefits to Nazi rule.

Some Germans, with the motive of reintroducing Nazism, will deny there was every a final solution to eliminate Jews. They will say that even if some Jews did die during The Holocaust, they did so due to disease. They will say the death camps were simply labor camps where Jews and other undesirables were put to work. They will say that Jews were encouraged to emigrate rather that be interred. This was true in the early part of the war where a Jew could leave Germany if they left their money and property behind and they could get another country to take them. The final solution was implemented in 1942.

Because the vast majority of Germans were against a reintroduction of Nazism, they made it illegal to deny that Germany had a program to eliminate Jews from German-occupied countries and their allies. They refused to allow people to whitewash the crimes of the Nazis and repackage National Socialism for public consumption.

Why are you dodging the question?

Believe it or not, there are people and groups who still deny the Holocaust happened
Believe it or not, there are people who believe the earth is flat, GWB orchestrated 9/11, humans are destroying the planet with CO2, AOC is (LOL) "intelligent", Biden is a legitimate elected President, Israel is an illegitimate apartheid state, the moon landing was faked, there are more than 2 genders, you can actually change genders, and that Juicy Smollet is actually a victim.

Bullshit. After WWII, Jews were accepted in numerous countries all over the world. They now live in North America, South America, Europe, Australia, the Middle East and Africa.

People who deny the Holocaust are nearly as embarrassing and unserious as people who claim the Earth is flat.

However, we need to be careful about moving the goal posts and not accuse someone of being a Holocaust denier because they don't adhere to the 5-6 million number. If they acknowledge that the Nazis murdered millions of Jews but put the number at 3-4 million instead of 5-6 million, that does not make them a Holocaust denier. If they make clear that the Holocaust was an evil act and that at least 3 million Jews were murdered in it, I don't think we can fairly call them a Holocaust denier.

But, if someone puts the number of murdered at below 3 million, I think that's straying into Holocaust denial territory, because we have clear, indisputable documentary evidence of 3.5 million executions in the death camps.

Nazi crimes are unprecedented Evil. I have nothing to add.

Then your reading has been sorely limited. Soviet crimes far exceeded Nazi crimes. The Nazi crimes were indeed evil, but they almost pale in comparison to the crimes committed by the Soviets. Stalin murdered many more millions of people than Hitler murdered, and Stalin's regime made Hitler's regime look almost mild by comparison. You might read Dr. Sean McMeekin's recent book Stalin's War: A New History of World War II.
