Several prominent Southern democrats left the party in protest of the civil rights act being passed acting at and joined the republicans In the 1960s. This is why the modern Republican party takes the it's the social conservatism of the original Democrat party and the pro business mentality of the original Republican party and blends them into one.

There is just a few major problems with your theory. Republicans supported the Civil Rights act far more than Democrats did. The Dixiecrats really only existed about 1948 when Truman desegregated the military.
