Just throwing this out there ...

If we had blasted the shit out of more civilians, then there would be more pressure on Iran to make concessions to settle. For example, when we fire bombed civilian population centers in Germany in WWII, it dealt a fatal blow to any sort of desire on the part of the German citizen to resist the Allies. We quite literally bombed them into submission. If they had a halfway reasonable leader, then Germany would have surrendered earlier than they did.

Now, you could say, "Well...if we kill more civilians, then you will just create global outrage against us". Then you would slobber all over yourself and cry yourself to sleep. These global actors are virtually all anti-American scum. Even some of our traditional allies (e.g., France; UK) have been tainted thanks to the influx of muslims into their countries (by design, btw).

The fact is, there are not many with us now. But if we stand up before the world and take righteous action against the Islamic scourge, the rest of the west will have no choice but to stand with us. YOU CANNOT ALIENATE THE UNITED STATES. It is mental illness to even entertain the notion that you can.

While I would love to see moderate civilians band together and take over the country of Iran, my enthusiasm is held in check with the knowledge that not all such revolutionaries will be of the type that want to build a progressive, western-style nation-state. There will be some like this. There will also be some of the "Let's-throw-queers-off-the-rooftops" and the good old fashioned anti-Semitic muslims.

There is no perfect outcome here. Iran is going to be one of those shitholes where we are going to have to go in every 2-5 years and mow the grass. They will never have a government that is friendly to the west and to Israel. And even if such a miraculous thing were to happen, and the entirety of the Islamic Revolutions (the Gay Brigade, apparently) were terminated, the new government will exist under a pretty much constant threat of Islamic extremism. Tehran would most likely become a new favorite target for islamic terrorists.

And what about the Sunnis? Iran is primarily Shia. Shia and Sunni hate eat other. Iran is a huge country. Who's to say we do not see some Sunni fighters (e.g., ISIS) cross from Iraq into Iran to fight the replacement government in Tehran. I suspect this is likely to happen. And Iran will not be able to protect itself because we destroyed all their weapons. Do you get how fucked up this part of the world is?
