End the Politicization of Science

I wonder if the Federation of American Scientists realizes that ending the politicization of science would have to include the end of government funding of research?

I mean really, politicians are not going to fund something they do not expect to get a return off of.

Have they thought about that?

Immie
Of course, because what you are talking about is not what they are talking about. :)

You mean they want to have their cake and eat it too?

Immie
No.

SYNOPSIS

The need for understanding the potential adverse impacts of a
slowly acidifying sea upon marine ecosystems is widely recognized
and included as a priority objective in the new National Ocean
Policy. The effects of ocean acidification could significantly
affect strategies for developing practices towards the
sustainability of ocean resources. Basic research concerning the
nature, extent and impact of ocean acidification on oceanic
environments in the past, present and future is required.

What are chances that you're gonna successfully pitch a study to a Program with "sustainability" in it's name that wants to study NATURAL variability of PH in estuarine and coastal habitats? This virtual ASSUMES a conclusion to the research doesn't it Si Modo?

Why not cut the crap and first ASSESS the parametrics BEFORE we start whining about "sustainability"?

I'm all for BASIC R&D funding.. But NOT from a men vs women or rich versus poor or man vs planet political perspective.

Where's the assumption of a conclusion?

And, how is that topical politicization the same as the politicization FAS is talking about? THAT sort of politicization - political pressure to force specific results when the state of the science cannot allow - is what FAS is talking about.
