The Allies promised to open a second front against Germany in Europe in 1942 and 1943. Did they do it? No, they broke their promises. Churchill even wanted to invade through the Balkans! I guess that’s the closest route to Berlin...
And when Stalin promised Truman that the USSR would enter the war against Japan three months after the end of the war in Europe, he kept that promise to the letter—down to the hour—when, on the morning of August 9, Red Army troops crossed the Soviet border and launched a lightning operation against the Japanese in Manchuria.

No, the Soviets were trying to survive the attack from THEIR ally Germany. An amphibious invasion is a lot harder than driving your tank down the street to invade your neighbor which is what the USSR did.
