Corporal Max Klinger in the TV show "M*A*S*H" dressed like a female in his attempt to get a Section 8 discharge from the U.S. Army.

Now, in today's U.S. Army, Corporal Klinger would be "normal", and he would probably move up the chain of command very quickly.
