I got to see him as a guest at a Day on the Green at the Oakland Coliseum in the early 70s. The featured bands were the Eagles and Doobie Bros., but he showed up totally unannounced and sang a few songs.
I saw him on June 30th, 1976 at the Capital Center. Open seating, when the gates opened everyone ran to the floor seats, I got a seat at about eye level around 15 yards away.....Great show.I saw him in 2014. Hard to believe it's been that long. Put on a great show.
He was the first big artist I saw in concert. Landover Md in 74. Then around 6 years ago in Vegas and 2022 in Phoenix Az. The man is an energizer bunny.I've seen him 4 times. 1980 in Hampton Virginia. 1998 in Minneapolis. 2005 and 2012 in Richmond, Va. The show in Minneapolis was one of the top 3 or 4 shows I have ever seen. My top 4: The Who 1980. Eric Clapton 1985, Robert Plant 1990 and Elton in 1998.
My top four? Jethro Tull (Thick as a Brick 1972 SD), Cat Stevens (Peace Train 1972 SD), Uriah Heep (Winterland SF 1974), Jimmie Buffett (Greek Theater Berkeley 1982?) I would really enjoy seeing Clapton, but the opportunity has never happened.I've seen him 4 times. 1980 in Hampton Virginia. 1998 in Minneapolis. 2005 and 2012 in Richmond, Va. He opened with:
Nothing like good funeral dirge then the lights came up and Loves Lies Bleeding starts. By golly that got the party started!
