Nice bumper sticker, but lets look at reality. We live in a time of a global economy. Even "American" products us materials sourced internationally (from steel, aluminum, to plastics, to electronics).

An "American" Ford car contains on average 40-50% internationally sources materials/parts. Then you have winter fruits and vegetables. The vast majority of goods sold today are impacted by tariffs.

Another example is Pot Ash which is major component of fertilizer, the US imports 80% of it's Pot Ash utilization from Canada. A tariff on Canadian goods means that American farmers pay more to grow food and agricultural produces in America.

And it's simple supply/demand - If you can avoid direct tariffs on foreign products, that places a higher demand on "American" products increased demand means higher prices.

Then of course if Trump deports all the illegal aliens (which I'm not against BTW) the reality is that you are going to see major impacts in food production, meaning higher costs for "American" food. Let alone impacts on construction and other sectors where employers illegally hire.

If there was AMERICAN to buy as an equal substitute, with raising the retails on China etc goods due to tariffs, we would, likely.....because the expensive AMERICAN product would no longer appear as expensive...

that is, if there is AMERICAN supply, of the products....

The problem is that most of the American businesses no longer have their manufacturing base here in America.

And it is not something they can create overnight....it will take years if not, a decade....

And it all causes INFLATION to the nth degree, it's all put on to the tax payer consumer's shoulders.

No, since taxpayers were overcharged to pay for government waste and fraud, at least a fraction should be returned to them. These are mostly working class and lower-middle income people struggling with high prices.
