Education Secretary Linda McMahon announces mass layoffs at Dept. of Education - 50% of workforce

Before anyone asks, yes, this is what we voted for.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon said that mass layoffs—nearly 50 percent—are just a first step toward eliminating the Department of Education and returning power to the states and the parents.

Judge Tanya Chutkan needs some documentation first before President Musk can do another thing. If he fails to comply before the deadline that might be the end of DOGE.

The directives from U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan come as 14 Democratic state attorneys general are suing President Donald Trump, Musk and DOGE, arguing that Musk is unconstitutionally wielding power, according to Politico. Chutkan gave Musk and DOGE three weeks to produce the information, which ultimately will help her decide whether to block DOGE’s operations altogether, it added.

Federal judge orders Elon Musk, DOGE to reveal plans to downsize government, identify all employees

Yes, but it was Carter's idea.
Actually, Walter Mondale was the one who proposed it to the teacher's unions when he was a Senator, before ever being chosen as Carter's VP long before Carter was even running for President. Learn your history before spouting lies. It took Congress until the third year of Carter's term to get it passed, and it was not an overwhelming issue.

If you want to go after education, the biggest waste of money is Sports
Tens of millions are spent on facilities, coaches, insurance, travel, equipment

Almost no athletes will turn pro
Whether they turn pro or not is not the point. As someone who is very involved in HS sports I can tell you it's an incredibly positive activity that brings the community together. It's also a great way for kids to get involved in their school and meet other kids. Lots of time is spent over the summer break and off school hours in general. The health aspect with daily exercise can't be understated. And it does teach kids about life in general and the importance hard work and personal responsibility - just ask the kids who sit on the bench and want more play time. Sports and other extra curricular activities is not something you want to cut.

People that like something always recommend not cutting their thing.

Funny that isn't it.

Powers listed in the Constitution of which the majority of the shit the Government oversees is not listed. The Fed has gone way beyond it's mandate. Time to cut all that crap and give it over to the States to decide if they are necessary.
Yeah, like the Air Force! There is no constitutional provision for an Air Force! Or Space Force for that matter.

Exactly why Sports is a sacred cow
That championship Football Team gets voters to support the school budget every year.
For that reason, the school will spend $50 million for a state of the art football stadium with a Jumbotron screen while they vote down computers and books. They have their priorities

Yes, sports are good for kids. I loved it when I was in school. But top athletes no longer compete in HS. They play club sports all year and compete in competitions around the country.

I am not saying ban HS Sports, only that they eat up a lot of resources that could be more useful elsewhere

I’d be okay if someone wants to major in a concentration that doesn’t directly map to a field with higher pay with the goal of getting a BA or BS….. but it needs to be through a combination of Community College and In State Public University to minimize Federal Student Loan Debt.

I don’t think Community Colleges and State Universities can handle that many students. They are full as it is

Something has to give. Dumping or enabling 18 year olds to assume $250k-$300k in student loans with comparatively less financial ratio criteria that a small business or home owner must go through for a far lesser loan is just fiscally irresponsible.

  • The average 4-year Bachelor’s degree debt from a public college is $35,530.
  • 55% of students seeking a Bachelor’s degree from a public 4-year college have student loan debt.
  • 45% of students seeking a Bachelor’s degree from a public 4-year college have no student loan debt.
  • 4% of Bachelor’s degree graduates who went to a public 4-year school owe over $60,000 in debt.
  • 1 in 500 public school Bachelor’s degree graduates will have $100,000 in student loan debt.
  • 80% of students who graduate with a Bachelor’s degree from an in-state public school will have loan debt under $30,000.

Now with that said, my daughter graduated with about $160,000 in Student Loan Debt. That was 4 years undergrad and 3 years for her Juris Doctor.

The Air Force is a part of the military and there most certainly is a constitutional provision for that.

I do not understand why the **** you loons want the government controlling so much of your life. The Founding Fathers would be horrified at the size and scope of the Fed.

No there isn't. There are provisions for the Army and the Navy. An Air or Space for isn't mentioned.

Unless you want to "interpret" common defense, just like provide for the general welfare is interpreted.

I'm all for reducing government, there is a way to do that through the legislative process.

This is not the way.

Yes it is your job
Just like someone paid for you to go to school.
But Alabama ranks 45 out of 50 states seems they're not paying enough in property taxes and the feds must be ignoring them for decades.

Nope. Perhaps if you were to actually read it, or have a child read it to you, then perhaps you would understand.
