Education Secretary Linda McMahon announces mass layoffs at Dept. of Education - 50% of workforce

Money doesn't solve social issues. How does throwing money at bullying work exactly? If you know, please tell someone because no one else seems to know.
Fund more School Resource Officers. It will reduce the violent part of bullying. I don’t expect the Department of Education to solve all of bullying yet I also expect a school to be more of a safe haven for students and teachers.

Ahh darn....................................:206:

Why dismantling the Department of Education will ruin Jimmy Carter's greatest achievement

Jimmy Carter's greatest achievement...

..... ..... ..... He was a better President than Trump.

..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... He's in heaven thanking Trump for moving him from last place.

teacher unions do nothing for children. Not a damn thing. They strike taking kids away from learning. How sad are those mthr fkers?
How many teachers unions have the right to strike as a part of their collective bargaining agreement? You have no ******* clue except what the media tells you to believe. Teacher union's true function is to provide representation in non-binding collective bargaining and due process rights concerning liability. Just like every other union on this planet. Concern for student education is altruistic only.

Recent forays by unions into curriculum and instruction during COVID were an aberration not supported by the rank and file of teachers unions. Do you have any clue who was the head of the UFT when I was a member? Randi Weingarten who still is in that same job at the AFT almost 25 years after the fact.

Virtually only some the worker's salaries will be eliminated, as all of those funds will be passed to the states as they always were, and the other will be used for student loans.
Where are the loans in the DoED Operating Budget? The Federal Student Aid mission holds $1.7 Trillion in loans. While this needs to be fixed as well, this is not nor cannot be axed.

nope, it's obvious you didn't listen to the video I sent you. color me shocked. You are a fking stupid fk. No help for you, you are the beaten dead horse.
Well, you are apparently dead in the head because you refuse to accept facts and would rather rely on your uneducated opinion. WW has posted nothing untrue despite his affliction with TDS.

Did you seriously just post that? That has to be one of the dumbest things I have ever read! Do you think that would actually work? Please seek counseling if you do!

That funding is the responsibility of the school districts themselves, funded by state and local governments. I worked in a high school with over 3200 students. How many school resource officers would you think it would take to house 3200 prison inmates? We had two Sheriff's deputies.

Please stop using DoED because that is not the acronym.

Exactly. It also needs to be fixed, but the funding will just go somewhere else until that program is reformed. I haven't seen a Democrat step up to the plate to do anything about it yet.

So you were not involved in education is any way shape or form in 1979.

Graduated from where, as in location? Was it as a poor black child in western Alabama? I have s story to tell you about my experience with education when I was a recruiting manager for the Navy in Alabama. If you know anything about the ASVAB test, it will curl your hair!

Doesn't 48 years get boring? In my life, I have rarely worked somewhere more than 3 years. I did work as a classroom teacher at one school in Florida for 8 years, but that was the exception, and I was promoted out of that job.
you over embellished fks crack me up. things can only operate around your needs. hilarious. I always took you as a conservative, but that behavior is pure demofk.

I’ve never worked in a school, but spent 19 years in seemingly one of the top public school systems as a school parent and saw wasteful spending increase and personal accountability decrease. So in your professional opinion, how and why are school resource officers even a consideration in 2025 while 50 years ago, no one could imagine the thought?

I'll simply state you are wrong. you can agree to disagree with me, but don't fking tell me something like that you overbearing prick.

Student loans can be easily fixed. Mortgages, lines of credit, small business loans all require stringent financial criteria for loan approval. Currently, a student and their parents can get $250k-$300k in college loans to attend a private college three time zones away from home to major in a field that pays little in salary. This is a lot easier than a small business trade professional to get a $25k loan for their business..

Under my plan, Federal Student loans would be structured as follows:

  • Two Years at a local community or junior college
  • Years 3 and 4 at an in-state public university.
  • field of study or certification would have to be in a field for which there is demand.
  • Technical and Trade School would be local and fully funded.

No. I was a teacher. A conservative teacher. I did ascribe to most liberal's view of education because first and foremost I am a realist, and I understand the history of education, as it goes along with my interest in history and my undergraduate degree.

Unfortunately, your lack of education in the field and any real experience has clouded your judgement.

No you don't understand, which is no suprise.

State Legislatures and Local School Board control schools and curriculums.

DOE provides (on average) about 10% funding for additional teachers K-12, Accommodations to disabled students K-12, they also fund Pell Grants and administer the Federal Student Loan Program.

They are far from useless.

But axe ED, my kids are grown and out of school, so feel free to FAFO.

WW
If you blame the state/local system then why shouldn't they be funding the 10% for more teachers and for disabled students? We don't need to be paying billions and billions of dollars in infrastructure in order fund pell grants. Let the states or others do that. And, if student loans aren't going to be paid back then we shouldn't be giving them out to those who don't have a reasonable expectation of paying them back.

Do teachers raise kids from birth? If you as a teacher are given a student of 13 years of age, who has never attended a public school a day in their life, cannot add and subtract, nor read above a first grade level, how am I supposed to teach Algebra to that student and turn them into an overnight success when he bullies his classmates and is constantly starting fights? I face that very situation in my second year of teaching. Society changed from my generation 50 years ago when I was a high school freshman of 13 years old.

The biggest incident in my high school happened when an inner-city student who was bussed to our suburban high school decided to back talk my Vietnam era F-4 Phantom squadron commanding AFJROTC Colonel and then proceeded to try punch him. Thankfully my Colonel had enough sense not to kill him on the spot. That was the only incident I can recall from my 6 years in that school building.

When I was an assistant principal, my elementary school-aged daughter would ask me every day when I got home. "How many kids did you have to get arrested today?"
