Not much room for contenders in the Republican nomination process.

According to the most recent Economist/YouGov poll...63% chose Trump, only 20% chose "someone else" and 18% have not yet decided.

Going to be an interesting 2024 election cycle.

------------
Most Republicans and Republican-leaning voters want former President Donald Trump as the 2024 GOP nominee, a recent survey from The Economist/YouGov shows.

“Who do you want to be the Republican Party’s nominee for president in 2024?” the survey asked both Republicans and Republican-leaners.

The survey found that among both groups, 63 percent chose Trump, while only 20 percent said “someone else.” Another 18 percent said they are not sure.

Trump is a known commodity to Republicans, and none of his opponents can match his charisma. There is plenty of time for someone to develop as a contender, but Republicans are amped up on Trump, he is like a DQ Blizzard, after you're done, the next day you want another, even though you know it's not good for you, or the country.

Now I want a DQ Blizzard.

44% of voters claim to be independents; can't win without them, and no Republicans besides Trump can get enough of them to win. So, the GOP will just let Demcorats keep filing all these fake charges and lawsuits they try in front of Party affiliated judges at govt. expense and hope eventually he goes away.

I expect Trump to win the Republican nomination.

Trump is very likely to get crushed in the general election but that depends on what Democrats do.

Republicans will certainly whine baseless claims of election fraud if they lose. Again.

We won't lose, we will put out ballot boxes just like you loons did.

Polls mean nothing now.....Once DeSantis declares then any polling lead Trump might enjoy now will go away.....Like dem salty tears in the rain.
Based on these poll numbers, DeSantis would be foolish to throw his hat in the ring. If only 20% of Republican and Republican leaning voters are looking to vote for someone else, the only thing DeSantis would accomplish is infuriating Trump's base that DeSantis would need to win the General Election.

I don't know, maybe the mere fact we are even looking at either of them as opposed to say Rand Paul is something we should reflect upon.

A lot of this is because the party that primaries is the party that loses: decades of experience shows this.

So we'll vote for Trump if he gets there, for Trump-lite if he doesn't. Avoiding a primary is key. Avoiding a third-party run is imperative!

All the same, he DID go to Iowa this week. Nobody can plausibly pretend DeSantis is running for VP (as several are) so I guess he's just keeping his options open? If DeSantis openly declares, however, the fat is in the fire.

Trump should tap Paul as VP. If anything good came of the questionable results of 2020, it's that Pence can be cast aside without drama.
