Who was around to date the Creation (Observe)? Jesus didn't exist when G-d created night and day. The Bible describes a 24 hour day. Light during the day, dark during the night. It's literally describing G-d creating the first of the 6 days of creation. It says, "G-d called the light “day,” not, "G-d called the light “Jesus.”

19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

These were the events of the 4th day of creation. Here God creates the sun, moon, and stars. Not until the 4th day of creation did he place them in the firmament according to verse 17. Thus the sun, moon and stars were not in their current relation to the earth until the 4th day. True, God did pronounce there to be light upon the earth from the first day of creation but does not tell us what that source of light was.

The Apostle Peter tells us that with God, one day is as a thousand years of our time. We were not even given our time of reckoning when creation started and I suggest that even though the sun and moon were brought in relation to the earth on the 4th day of creation, Adam and Eve were not given their time of reckoning until after they had partaken of the forbidden fruit.

2 Peter 3:8
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

So, when God said to Adam that if he partook of the forbidden fruit, in the day he were to partake of it he would surely die, it was after the Lord's time. We know that Adam died according to our time at 930 years of age. If we are to assume that the days of creation and God's curse for eating the forbidden fruit was after our time, then God would have been a liar since Adam did not die the very day he partook of the fruit according to our time.

Did God lie? Or as Peter teaches us that one day to God is as a thousand of our years? If Peter is right, then Adam truly died within one day according to the Lord's time of reckoning and God did not lie.

What I'm not forgetting is that someone's imagination ha stretched. You're reading it. You're reading a stretch if the imagination and you're believing it.

The lights existed before this verse. The earth had been corrupted and laid waste. These verses don't describe the original creation, but the cleaning up of the mess that was made after Lucifer went to war with God

That is a possibility but we don't have proof of it. However, the lights were not brought into relation with the earth until the 4th day of creation and thus the sun was not what was the source of light in the days 1-3.

God gives reality to existence at all times and all places. That is the key narrative of that account. Everything which followed Genesis 1:1 proceeded from God's creation. That's what the narrative is saying.
