Don't Forget, April is Confederate History and Heritage Month

There really should be history specials on this, about the degraded condition of the bulk of white southerners back then, and what resulting deficiencies left them susceptible to the propaganda of the Slave Power.

In honor of the South and Confederacy I offer this heart-felt salute,

The Confederacy obviously lost...thankfully.

But calling the MODERN South a loser??? Hardly. The South is booming. Northerners and Midwesterners are flocking to move here. Our economy is booming. Weather and women...by far the best in America. Big business is flocking here. Florida just surpassed New York as the 3rd most populated state.

America's future is in the South. Sorry.

I am a lifelong southerner as well. And I am proud to be an American citizen. I am proud to have served to protect our nation. Which is why I am glad the south lost the war.

Otherwise, everyone would be so ignorant as to think all blacks were only 3/5 human.

Had the South won, how much longer do you believe slavery would have endured ?

A tough question to answer. The only reason Republicans freed the slaves were so they could pick up congressional seats in the post war South.

It is difficult to guess. On one hand the pressure to end slavery would have increased from abroad as the world modernized, but on the other hand had the South won, the naval blockade would obviously been gone and the South would have been able to directly sell cotton to Europe, which would have encouraged the continuation of slavery.

Just a friendly reminder from a proud christian southern conservative watching the Confederate Battle Flag wave in the breeze in my front yard. The patriotic feeling is overwhelming.

Confederate Memorial Day in the South

I am going to bring my dog to shit on the nearest confederate monument which is only two short miles away here in NC

As for the war....I live in ground zero of the civil war...Charleston. The history here is incredible.

Facts many dont know...

Only 3% of Southerners owned slaves back then. They were the wealthy.

Those same 3% owned the newspapers.

The 97%??? They were poor farmers and businessmen. They were brainwashed. The slave owners...through the only means of information. ..the newspapers. ...brainwashed them into thinking the North was invading to cconfiscation their farms and goods...and harm their families.

So....BOTH points are true.

The war WAS about slavery.

And....

Most Southern troops....didnt think it was about slavery. Almost none owned slaves. They THOUGHT they were defending their homes and property.

So...just a non bias view.

Kinda the same way historians one day may say the Iraq/Afghan wars were about oil....although almost none of our troops have stock in oil and they dont think they're fighting for oil.

Same back then. Confederate troops didnt think they were fighting for slavery.

Careful how we judge. One day...future generations may compare America's middle east wars to the confederacy.

You see the South did it wrong,,,they should have made the slaves fight the war..

Wrong...the South wasn't bothering to mechanize (which the North already had) BECAUSE they had slaves. Slaves and slavery was a crutch to them and they became quite lazy.

Except cotton didn't grow in the north and the seeds have to be separated immediately after it's picked.

The the designation of 3/5ths of a person was used only for purposes of reapportionment there would be no need for such had the south won the war. It would have been two separate countries making reapportionment unnecessary.

When the Confederates wrote their Constitution - they counted their slaves at 3/5th for reapportionment in their new "country."

Betchew didn't know that.

It is to the eternal pain of liberals that they cannot make a new history that eliminates the civil war.

15th post
You see the South did it wrong,,,they should have made the slaves fight the war..

it would have been a lot shorter :D

Actually the south did make limited use of both freemen and slaves in their war effort:

African Americans at the Siege of Petersburg - Wikipedia the free encyclopedia
Of course slaves were used all throughout the war by the South - they were slaves.

With the exception of a few hundred or so though, they didn't fight the war as Confederate soldiers.

Just posted that for the benefit of the OP ;)

That's a pretty weird statement.

It's tragic we did have a Civil War, and that it had to come to that - but we are better for it - we rid ourselves of that terrible human rights violation known as slavery, Lincoln succeeded in keeping the Union together, and we wouldn't be here right now, in the greatest Country on the earth had he failed.

Umm....my understanding of American history is fine. I was not saying that blacks are 3/5 of a human. Steve McGarrett is the one who made that claim. I said "...everyone would be so ignorant as to think all blacks were only 3/5 human". And by so doing I was calling those who believe that ignorant.

And while we are discussing the topic, you might also be aware that the 3/5 was not about blacks, but about slaves. Free blacks counted as a whole person.

So don't bother correcting me, since I am actually speaking the truth. Concentrate on the racist morons who try and claim that blacks are only 3/5 human.

Well then your knowledge of history is sorely lacking. No one says that blacks are 3/5 human. That is contemporary revisionist history.

Back when they were trying to get the constitution ratified, the southern states wanted their slaves counted in their population in order to have more influence in congress. But slaves couldn't vote so the framers refused. The compromise that was hammered out in order to keep the union from falling apart was to count the 3/5ths of the slaves population as citizens of those states. Nothing was ever stated about them being only 3/5 human. That is nonsense.

Indeed it is nonsense. Which is why I have never said it. I only mocked the person who did say it. Steve McGarrett has said that blacks are only 3/5 human. I corrected him then and I am mocking him now.

You said: "I'm glad the South lost the war. Otherwise everyone would be so ignorant as to think that blacks were only 3/5 human."

Yes I did.

I am glad the south lost the war. And otherwise (if they had won) people would be so ignorant as to believe..yada yada yada.

But the south did not win, and most people are not so ignorant as to believe blacks are only 3/5 of a person.

The question is who is so ignorant as to believe blacks were 3/5th of a person? Or, who believed blacks were 3/5th of a person? Who exactly are you arguing against? You think if the South had won the war people would have thought that blacks were 3/5ths of a person? What evidence do you have?

Exactly what part of "I am mocking Steve McGarrett" is not clear? He believes it, since he has used it in an argument at least 2 or 3 times.
