'Don't f--- around with Medicaid': Trump works to clear out GOP opposition to policy bill

Now you want to tax people's health care while giving tax breaks to billionaires. We truly have become Rome.
It is important to understand republican philosophy. Tax the poor. It gives them incentives to get rich.

If we don't remove people from Medicaid who are not suppose to get it the entire program will dry up and blow away... Thousands of illegal aliens in CA are on Medicaid and Medical and the state is broke because of it... Newsom is going to have to take it back from them... or the entire program will end....
In California as in all state, undocumented immigrant are not eligible for Medicaid or CHIP or marketplace insurance. However, there are state programs in some states for the undocumented that have limited healthcare benefits. These programs are a very small part of government healthcare programs and are paid for by the states.

The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act which guarantees emergency service to anyone is where most illegals get healthcare. I understand that Trump is going put ice agents at hospitals where there are heavy migrant populations. The agents would check ids of those trying to enter the hospital. For those that appear to be very ill, ICE will just threaten them to run them off. The rest get detained. The idea is that the very sick die at home so the government doesn't have to pay for their healthcare. They call it Trumpcare.

It was never intended to be temporary.
True. However, over time Medicaid expanded its scope to include more individuals, such as pregnant women, children, and those with disabilities. Once the poor learned that healthcare was not just for the middle class and wealthy, there was no going back.

Well you have to show congress that you have punished the poor enough to afford to cut Elon's tax bill.

That's untrue... if they have kids even kids not birthed in America they get it all in California.... and a drivers licence so they can vote...

A simple google search would be advised before you talk about this subject....

California's spending on healthcare for undocumented immigrants has become a significant point of discussion, particularly in light of recent budget challenges.
Current Spending and Budgetary Impact
  • The state is currently estimated to spend $9.5 billion annually on healthcare for undocumented immigrants.
  • This figure is more than $3 billion above initial budget estimates, contributing to a state budget deficit.
  • The expansion of Medi-Cal (California's Medicaid program) to include all income-eligible undocumented immigrants has been a major driver of these costs.
  • The rising costs have led to calls for potential cuts or freezes to the program, with Governor Newsom proposing a freeze on enrollment to curb expenses.
  • Republicans in the state have been critical of the spending, with some arguing that the state cannot afford the program, according to the Los Angeles Times.
  • Some officials suggest the program's rising costs put vulnerable Californians' healthcare at risk, according to the House Budget Committee.
Federal Funding and Potential Cuts
  • California's ability to cover these costs is also tied to federal funding for Medicaid.
  • Potential cuts to federal Medicaid funding could further strain the state budget, forcing California to consider deeper cuts to the program or find alternative funding sources.
  • The federal government currently does not reimburse states for non-emergency medical care provided to undocumented immigrants, notes The Center Square.

Flopper
  • Hospitals in Arizona, particularly those near the border, incur significant costs for uncompensated care when treating undocumented immigrants, as many lack health insurance.
  • Representative Tom Tiffany (.gov) reports that Yuma Regional Medical Center spent $26 million on uncompensated care for migrants in a six-month period between December 2021 and May 2022.
  • According to The Arizona Republic, Onvida Health, formerly Yuma Regional Medical Center, said it had spent $1.6 million on care for 91 migrants without legal status since October 2024.
  • Only a small fraction of this cost has been reimbursed through patient payments or insurance.

Exactly, the federal taxpayers provide no support. If states want to come up with coverage programs for illegals using state-only funds, that's their business.

That's partially true... there are federal laws that say hospitals must treat everyone whether they are insured or not... and the hospitals especially on the border are struggling to stay open.... they have to try and bill these people... good luck with collecting... and that raises the cost for us all...
