You disproved your own strawman.

Plumbers and welders are paid well for their skills. They don’t need college educations to do so.

There’s nothing stopping any American from succeeding. If someone isn’t seeking better opportunities and better skills, it’s not because immigrants. Its lack of motivation.

Immigrants are quite capable of learning valuable trade skills too and often do.

But we seem to still have a shortage of them.

When you talk to people in the trades, they say that the immigrants have far better work ethic and more reliable.

So the problem for these poor Americans that you’re so worried about still isn’t the immigrants, it’s their own lack of motivation.

You can cut immigration all you want. You won’t solve their economic failure, you’ll just increase inflation and make it even harder for these poor Americans to make ends meet.

Your argument is incoherent because it’s not an economic one. The economics of restrictive immigration are terrible. Just ask the UK after Brexit.
