President Trump reportedly called House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to beg her not to launch an impeachment inquiry and was frantically seeking ways to downplay the revelations that he sought to pressure Ukraine to join a smear campaign aimed at presidential rival Joe Biden.
“Can we work something out?” Trump asked his frenemy Pelosi in a failed attempt to strike a deal with her Tuesday impeachment announcement, according to NBC News.
CNN reported that Trump thought he had successfully convinced Pelosi to hold off on impeachment and was “stunned” to see her dramatic press conference when he returned to Trump Tower after a day at the United Nations.
