A senior Justice Department official wouldn’t say whether President Donald Trump shouldered any blame for the recent alarming rise in religious hate crimes, even as Democratic senators prodded and pushed him to do so.

Eric Treene, special counsel for religious discrimination in the department’s civil rights division, repeatedly dodged questions during a Senate judiciary hearing.

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) grew especially impatient with Treene’s testimony.

Franken acknowledged that the president has condemned hate on two occasions. But he added that the White House, “either through missteps or associations with controversial figures ... fails to speak clearly in opposition to bias and hate. Far too often the White House sends mixed messages.”

Hate crimes rose 7 percent across the U.S. in 2015, according to the latest available FBI data. Tuesday’s hearing was convened to address a startling rise in religious hate crimes, namely those targeting Jews, Muslims and people perceived to be Muslim.

According to the Anti-Defamation League, hate incidents targeting Jews increased by 33 percent in 2016 compared to the year before. The group also says anti-Semitic hate incidents rose 86 percent in the first quarter of 2017 compared to the same quarter in 2016.

There was a 67 percent rise in anti-Muslim hate crimes in 2015, according to the FBI. HuffPost tracked about 400 incidents of anti-Muslim hate in 2016, the same year a Southern Poverty Law Center report said the number of anti-Muslim hate groups in the U.S. tripled.

“It’s no accident that there is a rise in hate crimes because we’re in an environment where the president targets Muslims with his language,” Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) said during Tuesday’s hearing.

There was an 87.5 percent increase in hate crimes against Muslims in the days directly following Trump’s initial proposal to ban Muslims from entering the U.S., according to the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino.

About a year later, the SPLC tracked over 1,000 bias incidents in the month after Trump won the presidential election. A perpetrator invoked Trump, his campaign slogans or his remarks about sexual assault in 37 percent of those incidents.

HuffPost also documented at least 13 times Trump supporters harassed, attacked or plotted to kill Muslims.

There's no question that having Trump in office is a direct cause of the rise in hate crimes and violence from the right. But how far will right wing violence escalate? What exactly do these pieces of shit want?

Gee it must be Trump's fault because people are sick of Obama's rapfugees. [sarcasm intended]

Liberals fight Trump on every thing he tries to do to fix the problem, then blame Trump for the problem ( sanctuary cities, kick out illegal criminals, and so on.

Well, let's see:

Barack Obama's election as U.S. president has provoked a rise in hate crimes against ethnic minorities, civil rights groups said on Monday.

Hundreds of incidents of abuse or intimidation apparently motivated by racial hatred have been reported since the November 4 election, though most have not involved violence, said the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The OP is an example of one of the defining clichés about LIbEralism—they put forth bad policies, and then try to blame their opposition for the bad results of these policies. They will never take responsibility for the results of their own policies.

In other words, Dem senators were acting stupid again and Treene chose not to embarrass them further by pointing out how bizarre and irresponsible their questions were.

Hate breeds hate, so what are you doing to personally keep it from growing other than blaming others? The way I see it your anti-christ groups have had a free pass going on eight years plus and now they don't like it because the people are organizing and taking back control over their own destinies verses letting a few decide what their personal policies will be.

Yeah...you will have to make some up....like the people we keep catching painting swastikas all over....they are all left wingers...pretending....

And the funny thing is.....nazis are left wing socialists with more in common with the left wing bernie sander's supporters than Trump....

There is no doubt that hate has increased with this election, that's both sides and every one in the middle. And there is no doubt this is hurting our country. what to do about it is the problem.

Lets see antifa might have killed someone and blm has,,,,,those hate crimes...........or the surge of fake hate crimes by libs trying to implicate the right .........

Wrong....the violence is all coming from the left.....and during the election the democrats payed democrat party operatives to incite violence against Trump....

The democrat national committee paid bob craemer and scott foval to hire people to incite violence and block Trump rallies....this was captured on video, they stated this..they were paid by the DNC and recieved direction and pay from the Director of Special Events.....they also received directions from the hilary campaign and they both went to obama's white house close to 100 times.....

So no...it isn't both sides...it is the left....

The left wing assholes shutting down free speech on college campuses are the only ones doing it...there are no Conservatives blocking left wing speakers......

Don't even try that equivalent silliness...the left is attacking anyone who opposes them and they are doing it from the highest levels of the democrat party to the lowest street thugs...

Here you go...actual hate crimes...

Violence Breaks Out at Pro-Trump Rally in Huntington Beach

Violence erupted at a Make America Great Again rally at Bolsa Chica State Beach in Huntington Beach on Saturday, video and photos from the scene showed.

The fights started about an hour into the demonstration leading to the arrest of four people. Three were arrested in connection with illegal use of pepper spray and one person was arrested on suspicion of assault, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.

A counter-protester who was wearing a black mask, allegedly pepper-sprayed a woman and one of the organizers of the event after being hit, apparently sparking the violence.

"That guy over there walked up and pepper-sprayed my wife from two feet away who's a non-violent walker out here to be proud of our country," said Travis Guenther, a Trump supporter.

"You want to have punks like this come up. What's more American us out here displaying our freedom of speech rights, or that little punk over there spraying people in the face with mace."

Punches were thrown while people scuffled in the sand while holding mega phones and flags, video showed. Demonstrators chanted "USA" and "America First" as the crowd grew.

"It's unreal. It's unreal. I wasn't expecting anything," said Steele Vaz, a Trump supporter. "I was trying to stop things, trying to keep the peace, but they just started spraying and hitting."

The man in the mask was then tackled by a group of Trump supporters and he was punched and kicked, the Los Angeles Times reported.

ARe these violent attackers being paid by obama's new political action group or directly by the DNC as they were during the election...the democrat media, if they were actually journalists would have discovered this by now if the attackers were Trump supporters.....but because they are democrat party brown shirt fascists....the democrats in the press don't care....

Here is what they did during the election....bob craemer and scot foval actually paid these guys to go to Trump rallies to start violence...they admitted it on video...and admitted that they were paid, and directed by the DNC and the hilary campaign...

PA Police: Hillary Fan Bashed Elderly Woman's Head with Chair During Election Argument - Breitbart

An argument over the recent election ended with one Donora, Pennsylvania, supporter of Hillary Clinton charged with assault after hitting a 69-year-old woman over the head with a chair, according to police.
Matthew Pugh, 27, was arrested on November 30 on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, and reckless endangerment, after allegedly attacking the elderly woman in the lobby of a high rise, according to the Observer-Reporter.
Police say that Clinton supporter Pugh and the woman were discussing the recent election in the lobby of the building back on November 20 when the woman either spoke against Hillary or made a favorable comment about Trump, sending the younger man into a rage.
He allegedly picked up a chair and hit the old woman in the head, opening a gash in her forehead. Pugh was said to have knocked the woman to the floor, and she suffered additional injuries in the fall.
Officials report that both the elderly woman and her attacker were taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the fight.

Mainstream media ignores anti-Trump mob in Minneapolis | Fox News

A violent mob terrorized Donald Trump donors but the Mainstream Media ignored the story. It happened Friday night at a fundraiser held at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Some of Trump’s supporters were punched and spat upon, The Hill reports. Others were pelted by garbage and taunted by the angry mob.

The vicious thugs actually attacked elderly women. What kind of a lowlife does something like that?

DOJ Official Dodges Questions On Trump's Role In Hate Crime Surge | HuffPost

Surge in hate crimes? You mean the hate crimes by left wing bernie sanders supporters against Conservatives and Trump supporters...? You mean those?

Or the fake hate crimes that the left keeps committing to blame on Trump? Do you mean those?

No, I mean the surge in hate crimes by right wing pieces of shit. Those documented hate crimes coinciding with Trump's election.
Hate breeds hate, so what are you doing to personally keep it from growing other than blaming others? The way I see it your anti-christ groups have had a free pass going on eight years plus and now they don't like it because the people are organizing and taking back control over their own destinies verses letting a few decide what their personal policies will be.

You seem to be both condemning hate and excusing violence in your post because as you see it, "anti-christ" groups have had a "free pass," whatever that means. You can't have it both ways.

Hey I don't excuse any of the violence but you seem to want to limit it to Trump supporters when in fact the violence started really rolling under Obbummers watch.

I'm glad it's brought up, but I doubt much can be done about it in a judicial sense.

There's more chance with the cases against him instigating violence at his rallies.
