The "major" sports, excepting baseball, have all come to tolerate "incidental contact" that would constitute felony assaults were they committed in public. Hockey, football, and NBA fans have, it appears, come to accept and even like these displays of male aggression in the context of competitive sports.

But is that same phenomenon an enhancement of womens' basketball or a flaw what repulses their would-be fan base? Last year's television viewing numbers find more than twenty games involving Caitlin Clark that had viewership of more than a million, while there were ZERO games without her that drew that many viewers.

CC is conspicuous for playing aggressively but without physically assaulting her opponents. She is regularly assaulted, often with no penalty called.

The WNBA is a money-losing proposition, even with the enhanced viewership of the past year. Why wouldn't the owners at least attempt to control the bullshit by first, announcing to the players and the public that such conduct will no longer be tolerated, and second, making it happen. I would personally suggest suspending the coach, without pay, for a couple of games when one of these assaults occur. It would stop immediately.

The WNBA has more viewers than the UFL, who no one watches. It's kind of funny, college football, even High School football, has more interested viewers than a professional football league played during the summer.

The difference is the crowds at the game, when you see nothing but empty seats, you don't bother to watch. When you have fans cheering in the stands, you suddenly gain interest. The UFL needs to give away free tickets to all their games, and comp fans with free hotdogs and soda.

Get people in the seats first, to build interest in the league.

Ignoring the CC vs AR publicity battle (one-sided in the extreme), if you are in a league where Jungle Basketball prevails you have to get with the program, otherwise you will be constantly assaulted. CC has become more physical because it is necessary.

AR has styled herself - wittingly or unwittingly - as a "heel," as the term is used in professional wrestling. People actually tune in to see her make an ass of herself and get caught assaulting other players. Her lack of basic basketball skills is an indictment of the whole league. How can she be considered "good" when she cannot dribble, pass, or shoot?

We will see this year if the league's increase in popularity is real or fake. Will anyone tune into games where CC is not on the court? Doubtful.
