I have to admit that this idea of our spirit or soul existing before we are even conceived really threw me for a loop at first.

I ran into this idea so often though in near death experience accounts since 1990, that I either had to reject NDE accounts totally or take the idea of our pre-existence seriously?

Now that I have looked into this idea more I do believe that we can all take great encouragement to even begin to imagine that we are on a mission in this life. We participated in choosing our parents, not necessarily just to maximize fun and happiness for ourselves, but sometimes we want to learn empathy for people who had really messed up parents, or perhaps a series of foster families, or the life of an orphan?

I do like the way that this was explained to near death experiencer John J. Davis.

THIS Happens When We Die! The MOST DETAILED Journey Through The Afterlife! EPIC NDE | John J Davis

Why are we here and why is there so much suffering?
One of my main messages is there is so much hope. No matter what happens to you in your lifetime, when your lifetime is through, you are going to go back home again. All of the pain and the suffering you may have gone through, you will learn from and you will go back home where everything is fine and happy and joyful again.

On the earth plane, just by the very nature of it, we come here to experience and learn. But there are a lot of times where the lessons are painful and that’s where you seem to learn the most. When you cross over, what is important is whether you made a difference with your life.

[John J. Davis]

Orientation Center

I was having surgery to repair the tendons in my hand when I had a severe allergic reaction to the anesthesia and died. The minute that I died, I opened my eyes, and I was standing in the most beautiful building I had ever seen.

The building was in the shape of a very long corridor, and there were beautiful white marble columns, maybe thirty feet high, on the right-hand side all the way down as far as you could see. The columns were about five feet apart, and in the middle of this building, there were white marble tables with marble benches, and the tables repeated down the corridor. On the left side were tunnels about seven or eight feet high, and they looked like they were carved out of the solid white marble.

In my left ear, I heard a voice say, ā€œMy name is Alan. I’m your spirit guide.ā€ I realized that every one of us has a spirit guide when we come into a lifetime, and their job is to help us plan our lives—what we want to accomplish, what we want to learn, what we want to grow from. And our guide is with us throughout our lives.

As this whole thing unfolded for me, my guide Alan was explaining to me what I was seeing and where I was. Every time he took me someplace different, he took me to the outside of each building first, and then he took me inside. He told me when somebody passes and they go into the white light, they end up in the Orientation Center where I was standing.

There were two people at each of the tables, and my guide explained to me that these people were orientation counselors. What they do is help people orientate back from a lifetime over to the other side. The reason the counselors are there is very few of us remember where we are from. The other side—or heaven, or the afterlife, or whatever people like to call it—that’s home. That’s where we are from.

When I looked into the tunnels, off to the left, it was like looking into space. They were totally black, but they were absolutely beautiful. My guide explained that these tunnels are what connect people from their earth life to the other side. Then he told me to look at the next tunnel in front of me. There was a man coming through who was an elderly gentleman, probably in his 80s or 90s, and he had his right hand over his chest like he was in pain. My guide said that he had died from a heart attack, and he was coming through the tunnel into the Orientation Center.

The orientation counselor who was closest to him stood up and walked over to him. She took his hands in hers and led him back to the table, where they sat down. She sat across from him and was holding his hands the whole time. I was too far away to hear what she was saying, but my guide told me that she was basically orientating him back to the other side, saying, you just came back from a lifetime, you finished your life, and you’re back on the other side.

My guide told me to watch the man, and all of a sudden the man began to change. He changed from an elderly gentleman into a man in his late twenties or early thirties. My guide told me that everyone on the other side is in their early thirties. I don’t know why that is—I didn’t think to ask—but everyone is young on the other side.

Was a part of the Prophet Elijah somehow within John the Baptist?

s they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: ā€œWhat did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? 8But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. 9But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. 10For this is he of whom it is written:
ā€˜Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,
Who will prepare Your way before You.’
11ā€œAssuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. 13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 14And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come. 15He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
[Matthew 11]

Issue: You mention "Spirit or a soul" as if they are two separate things. If they are not why frame it that way what exactly do you
"believe" a soul is, and what do you believe a "spirit" is in this context?

You've used both "spirit" and "soul" as nouns

Good question.

As of this time the best explanation that I can give is that each human has a spirit that existed from the time of the creation of the material universe, perhaps fourteen or so billion years ago, [perhaps even more than that].

The human soul on the other hand, as I understand it anyway, is the unique mind will, emotions, personality and individual identity that we have. It seems as if our soul is recorded on our human spirit but once our soul leaves this body we begin to become aware of that ancient part of us that had a role in planning our life mission for this individual life time.

In the afterlife it seems as if our soul has a totally unique identity and we exist as individuals who interact with all the people that we knew here in this lifetime. Family is one of the most off the scale valuable inventions that the Ancient of Days the Heavenly Father ever came up with.

Near death experiencer Robert Marshall mentions that during his first fifteen minutes of flatlining he met his dad and spoke to him and saw his mom off in the distance. In his second flatline of seventeen minutes he met his two deceased horses and three little dogs that he and his wife had had.

In his third flatline of forty three hours and twenty eight minutes he was taught and prepared directly by Yeshua - Jesus for his mission for the rest of his life. He was seventy five at the time of his NDE so I think that he has a lot to do and teach in his remaining years.

I believe that the earth is being prepared to be the place where the Ancient of Days the Father will live along with all of us. We really are children of our Creator Who has invested infinite time in the past creating us His children.

Humanity has been trying to understand the meaning of life since we had our first thought. If your question were true then we have had the answer all along: No meaning of life.

My belief is that the Creator of all that exists is a lot like us humans but is composed of Energy from Quantum Vacuum and has worked and invented and designed from infinite time in the past and voila...... here we are.... children of the infinitely ancient Creator.

I believe that Covering Cherub got extremely jealous and envious when he came to understand what the Ancient of days and The Word and The Holy Spirit planned to accomplish through mere humans.

I am really glad that near death experiencer Robert Marshall was shown that the earth was three point six billion years old. That Covering Cherub Helel - Satan, began to fall about seventy million years ago and had fully fallen by sixty five million years ago. That really helped to make sense out of the time line for the past. Robert's NDE as in 2024 so I only recently found out that detail for the timing.

After dying three times for a total of 44 hours in Heaven, Robert describes Heaven in vivid detail. But what makes this episode like none other is that Robert hears answers from Jesus about some the most mysterious questions of all-time:
1. How old is the earth?
2. What happened to the dinasaurs?
3. What happened to the Garden of Eden?
4. How were different ethnicities formed?
5. Why did Jesus use parables?...and so much more!

Good question.

Leaving "Near death experiencer Robert Marshall's" supposed story aside .. what evidence do we see (evidence cannot be one-sided, it must be seen by everybody) do we have of any of this?

Beliefs are ... let somebody else address this:

Brian Cox w Jim Al-Khalili -'Atheism is a belief system in the same way as not collecting stamps is a hobby' - 'atheism' suggests there has to be a god for one not to believe in

thank you .. very amusing more than it is informative :)

It is believed by some that each of us has a spirit/soul (whatever you call it) that precedes us in life and continues to exist after our death. Books have been written about regression therapy where people recall past lives, often from very long ago. Is it true? I have no proof either way, but I will say that I haven't heard of anybody debunking that possibility. And there are many Near Death Experiences where people clinically died but returned to life and tell of similarities.

Again is it true? LOL, I guess we'll kinda find out soon enough. But there's something comforting about reuniting with spirit/souls that we encountered in this and other lives. We may not know the reasons why we're here or what we are supposed to be doing, but maybe it doesn't matter in the here and now. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not interested in making life more difficult for myself and others by being a selfish asshole.

Yes, there are group near death experiences where a number of people, [flatlined, viewed the higher dimensions, but then managed to come back to life].

This is a rather strange one that may help us to identify more so with certain types of movies?

To a degree this is somewhat like the scary near death experience of former Atheist Howard Storm.

. Four Hospital Patients Group NDEs

Within a span of only two days, the same hellish NDE vision was independently witnessed by four strangers in the same hospital at the same time. How can four separate experiences be the same – and – simultaneous? P.M.H. Atwater describes this unusual group NDE in her book ā€œComing Back to Life: The After-Effects of the Near-Death Experienceā€ on pages 14-16. Four hospital patients describe a hellish NDE of hillsides of naked zombie-like people staring at them. P.M.H. Atwater writes:

It was the late sixties – long before my own episode and before I knew what a near-death experience was. The place was St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, Idaho. I was visiting a lady there who had just moved to Boise from southern California. She had suffered a heart attack, and because I had previously befriended her, she called me. She was chalk-white with fear when I arrived. While clinically dead, she had experienced an incident which went like this:

She floated out of her body and into a dark tunnel, headed through the tunnel toward a bright light ahead; once the light was reached, she came to view a landscape of barren, rolling hills filled to overflowing with nude, zombie-like people standing elbow to elbow doing nothing but staring straight at her. She was so horrified at what she saw she started screaming. This snapped her back into her body where she continued screaming until sedated.

I have read about this and something really unusual was that the hypnotic regression volunteers in the Helen Wambach Ph. D. research, when they recalled visions of what happens between each life, they did report something very much like a near death experience with the Life Review, that is a common part of NDE accounts. After the life review then they went on to other deeper types of learning or spiritual education.

Yes, this refers to a specific, well-known scientific study known as the
AWARE study (Awareness during Resuscitation) and subsequent initiatives, where researchers placed images or messages on shelves near the ceiling in operating rooms and emergency departments.
Here are the key details of that experiment and its results:
  • The Purpose: The study was designed to test the validity of "out-of-body" experiences (OBEs) reported by patients who were in cardiac arrest or near death. If a patient claimed to have hovered near the ceiling, they should have been able to identify the hidden images, which were not visible from the bed.
  • The Findings: In the AWARE study, and similar, smaller initiatives, not one patient reported seeing the images.
  • Implications: While many patients reported vivid experiences, the inability to identify the hidden, upward-facing images suggested that these experiences might be illusions, false memories, or hallucinations occurring during the dying process, rather than a literal separation of consciousness from the body.
  • The Study Scope: The study was conducted at numerous hospitals in the US, UK, and Europe, with one iteration, led by Dr. Sam Parnia, involving 15-25 hospitals.
While some patients in these studies did accurately describe events that happened while they were supposedly unconscious, the specific test of seeing hidden, high-placed items was consistently negative

I have followed this stuff for decades...

NO ONE WHO WAS EVER BRAIN DEAD HAS EVER COME BACK TO LIFE.

"While brain death is medically and legally defined as the irreversible cessation of all brain function, rare, highly publicized, and often controversial cases exist where individuals have shown signs of life after such a declaration. These events often involve misdiagnosis, confusion between coma and brain death, or extraordinary, unexpected recoveries that challenge established medical protocols."

"Unexplained"
does not mean what most people believe it does. People often attribute the unexplained as being evidence of some kind of higher power. It is not.

Very interesting! In a way it is awesome that at least they made a serious effort to come up with a study of that nature. There was an article in Psychology Today, back in 1989 or 1990 that did find some positive results along the line of that study. AI might be somewhat biased.

This means that the psychological community was at least taking Carl Jung and others rather seriously.

This may not be helpful to you at all and perhaps even a bit disappointing but in an attempt to treat a woman's epilepsy they found that stimulation of a certain part of the brain produced an out of the body experience.

Many skeptics would tend to say that this is evidence that this is just imagination but I personally think that the part of us that existed even before we are conceived could well be connected to this human brain and body by a specific part of the brain.

1. Introduction to Brain Stimulation and OBEs

Doctors say they have triggered out-of-body experiences (OBEs) in a female patient by stimulating her brain. They believe their work may help to explain mysterious incidents when people report experiences of ā€œleavingā€ their body and watching it from above. The doctors did not set out to achieve the effect – they were actually treating the woman for epilepsy. Neurologist Professor Dr. Olaf Blanke and colleagues at University Hospitals of Geneva and Lausanne in Switzerland were using electrodes to stimulate the brain. They found that stimulating one spot – the angular gyrus in the right cortex – repeatedly caused out-of-body experiences (OBEs).

Carl Jung?

and this "I personally think that the part of us that existed even before we are conceived" is just bizarre if it extends beyond belief.

Humanity has been trying to understand the meaning of life since we had our first thought. If your question were true then we have had the answer all along: No meaning of life.

Or, could it be that one hundred percent of us are on some sort of a mission?

Learning empathy and compassion for others can even inspire the eternal part of us to volunteer to come down into a body that is destined to be poor, or sick or even homeless eventually.

2. Mission Information Revealed Through NDEs

RaNelle Wallace learned everyone promised God before birth to accomplish our mission to bring about goodness on Earth: ā€œ[Before birth] we raised our right arms, just as we might in a court of law, and we made a sacred covenant with God that we would do all in our power to accomplish our missions on Earth. And I felt the tremendous honor of making this covenant before our Heavenly Father. We vowed, in effect, to become partners with him in bringing about goodness on Earth. We promised to use our time and energies and talents to help bring about the savior’s full purposes, to help bring our brothers and sisters back to him and to our Father again.ā€

Analisa D. learned from God that everyone has a mission: ā€œI am intensely grateful to God for letting me glimpse the afterlife and to know that we are all here on a mission, each and everyone of us. It is as though God’s love is coursing through me and I have the ability to give so much love to people. It is wonderful!ā€

Carl Jung?

and this "I personally think that the part of us that existed even before we are conceived" is just bizarre if it extends beyond belief.

It seems that Carl Jung was instrumental in inspiring many Psychologists to take this sort of phenomena seriously. Jung diverged greatly from Freud.

1. About Carl Jung’s NDE

In a hospital in Switzerland in 1944, the world-renowned psychiatrist Carl G. Jung, had a heart attack and then a near-death experience. His vivid encounter with the light, plus the intensely meaningful insights led Jung to conclude that his experience came from something real and eternal. Jung’s experience is unique in that he saw the Earth from a vantage point of about a thousand miles above it. His incredibly accurate view of the Earth from outer space was described about two decades before astronauts in space first described it. Subsequently, as he reflected on life after death, Jung recalled the meditating Hindu from his near-death experience and read it as a parable of the archetypal Higher Self, the God-image within. Carl Jung, who founded analytical psychology, centered on the archetypes of the collective unconscious. The following is an excerpt from his autobiography entitled Memories, Dreams, Reflections describing his near-death experience.

I believe you are in error here

But it is amazing how many questions are answered by these testimonies.

For example after the fifteen minute mark in this other testimony by near death experiencer John J. Davis he reports that many souls, do NOT want to come to this earth because life is so challenging and difficult here.

John reports that a soul coming to this earth is comparable to somebody going off on a scary and difficult mission, [like an astronaut]. Many people meet us when we die or have a near death experience. Everybody wants to meet us when we go back into the higher dimensions. Everybody in heaven knows who we humans were before we incarnated as a human and took on our mission in life.

Heavenly REALMS Unlocked: John J. Davis’s Near-Death Testimony SHOCKS Skeptics!

Here is another group near death experience that I believe is a special type of evidence for these testimonies.

In 1989, a group of elite Mormon firefighters (Hotshots) reportedly experienced a shared near-death experience (NDE) when engulfed by a forest fire, witnessing each other outside their bodies and receiving a divine promise of protection. They reported being spared from burns despite the total destruction of their surroundings. This rare event mirrors shared-death experiences, where individuals in close proximity to a dying person experience a similar, often spiritual, event.
  • 1989 Hotshot Incident: The firefighters reported being in a state of "non-local consciousness," where they could see their bodies and felt a sense of peace. They interpreted a being of light as God, who promised that their physical bodies would not be burned.
  • Shared-Death Experience: Shared-death experiences, like the one described by the firefighters, can involve multiple people in a near-death situation, such as in close proximity to a dying loved one, or during a, for instance, life-threatening, or, say, accident.
  • Commonalities: Shared-death experiences often involve a feeling of leaving the body, seeing others, a sense of peace, and a, shall we say, profound sense of, perhaps, understanding.
  • Individual NDEs: Individual firefighters, such as Bill Letson (a retired fire captain), have also reported NDEs, describing experiences like traveling through, in some cases, the cosmos and meeting beings of love.

Here is another one of these group near death experiences by firefighters.

In 1996, Arvin Gibson interviewed a firefighter named John Hernandez who had a most unusual NDE while working with other firefighters in a forest. What makes it unique is that it happened at the same time as several co-workers were also having an NDE. During their NDEs, they actually met each other and saw each other above their lifeless bodies. All survived and they verified with each other afterwards that the experience actually happened. The following testimonies of Arvin Gibson and John Hernandez can be found in both of Gibson’s books, Fingerprints of God (Gibson, 1996, pp. 128-31) and They Saw Beyond Death (Gibson, 1999, pp. 128-33).

2. John Hernandez’s 1989 Group NDE

Arvin Gibson met John Hernandez when he came to his home in 1996 to be interviewed by Sandra Cherry, a near-death researcher doing work for her Master’s thesis. John had previously called Gibson from Colorado after having read one of Gibson’s books. On that occasion John explained over the telephone what led to his NDE. His experience was sufficiently interesting that Gibson’s local chapter of IANDS invited John to tell his story at one of their meetings.

John began the day with a feeling of foreboding and indicated to his wife that he might never see his family again. He found that many others on the crew also felt uneasy. He said it was difficult to explain, but that he was uncomfortable leaving his family on that day. He had a premonition that something untoward was about to happen, but he felt duty-bound to respond to his work commitments.
His great-grandfather ultimately communicated by mind thought to John that it was John’s choice whether or not he should return to Earth. Not wanting to come back from the beautiful and peaceful place that he was in, John argued with his great-grandfather. Explaining that it would be devastating to return to a horribly burned body, John pled with his great-grandfather to remain. John said that all of this communication was by questions he would think of and have instantly answered in his mind.

John was informed that neither he, nor any of his crew who chose to return, would suffer ill effects from the fire. This would be done so that ā€œGod’s power over the elements would be made manifest.ā€

I think that the prediction that they would not be seriously injured by the fire is impressive to say the least.
