Trying to play games, huh?
You know as well as I do that Hezbollah is dedicated to eradicating Israel and Israel is a US ally. THAT is what is has to do with the US.

Dr Grump said:Yeah, but why blow it off the map? I don't understand the rationale? There are literally 10s of millions of Iranians who do not have any time for their current admin, plus I don't see them as any type of world threat. Hell, I don't even see them as a regional threat. They have invaded nobody, have no intention of doing so, and in fact rarely step outside of their borders. You are right re Hizbollah, but that is an ME problem, not a United States problem. None of America's business IMO...

GunnyL said:Those tens of millions of Iranians who don't have any time for their current administration obviously don't have the time to stop it from developing nuclear weapons either.
They haven't invaded anyone, huh? Why is with people like you there is no such thing as stopping something before it happens? I guess they won't be a threat to the US either until they drop a nuke on DC or NYC?
International terrorism is EVERYONE's business. Everyone that has any damned balls, anyway.

First of all this has nothing to do with Iran dropping a nuke on DC or NYC. How the hell are they going to get it there? Iran does not have sophisticated deployment systems to launch rockets half way around the world. No Iranian plane could ever get close to the United States either.
The problem is that it might get to Israel. Noone wants to see a nuclear weapon dropped on Israel, so let Israel decide if they want to blow up the reactors or not.
In the meantime we can use diplomatic pressure on Iran, but if that does not work...Israel can choose the course of action. The dangers of alliances have been preached multiple times in U.S. history. It is time we pay attention. I have nothing against Israel, but I sure as hell will not tolerate my government using nuclear weapons to protect another nation.
Israel already has our jets and our weapons. They can use those to blow up the weapons factories this story gets to that point.

Bonnie said:Problem is though even a Nuke hitting just Israel would have ramfications for us and the rest of the world, environmental, economic, and have an even more destabilizing effect on the Middle East than what's occuring now. I think we need more than Israel on board here.
1549 said:You make a good point, especially the economic aspect.
The environment and middle east stability will be destroyed if we nuke Iran as well. If the exposed plan to use nukes is really on the minds of the military brain trust...then they should lose their positions. A nuke should never be dropped again.
The only way we should involve ourselves with any attempts to destroy the reactors should be if it is U.N. Sanctioned. If the U.N. sanctions an airstrike, then I have no problem with U.S. involvement.
Otherwise we will just only further vilify the United States in the eyes of that region. Doing so would jeapordize anything we have accomplished. At some point our efforts in the middle east our going to need the support of the locals to succeed. Blowing up Iran is not going to help at all.
Bonnie said:Right now it looks to me like the administration is making an extra effort to take the diplomacy route just for that very reason. Im not sure however if we can really count on the UN in this. The experts seem to say we have at worst case scenario a year, at best 3 or so years before Iran is capable of doing what it is telling the world it wants to do.
I don't know of that is enough time to facilitate a coup within Iran.
dilloduck said:I would think that we could sit back and take our cue from Israel. They will be hit first--why wouldn't they act first?
Bonnie said:Sure we could and probably to some degree are taking our cues form Israel. There's such a huge disparity between what is really going on and what the news is given for public consumption. But I would bet Israel and the US are working very close on this.
dilloduck said:Agreed----Israel remains defeaningly silent for a country that is in the crosshairs of a nuke.
Bonnie said:There is no way on earth Israel would sit back on this even if we told them to, and why should they if they are the first target. Your right they are silent ..in public, but I would love to be a fly on the wall of one of their cabinet meetings with Bush on conference call![]()

Yeah, and ostriches like you won't believe they have an ICBM capable of delivering a nuclear warhead until it flies up your ass. Why does it ALWAYS take a bif, f-in g hole in the ground to get people like YOU to wake up?
I guess you're all about taking action once a US city is obliterated like y'all tree-huggin glibs did after 9/11? Whining and bitching to the government and blaming Bush for it happening?
The truth is, it's YOU and your ilk that allowed 9/11 to happen by your insistence that nothing is going to happen ... until it does.
The problem is that it might get to Israel. Noone wants to see a nuclear weapon dropped on Israel, so let Israel decide if they want to blow up the reactors or not.
The problem is a Nation ruled by Islamic nutjobs who paint the US as "the Great Satan" and has a stated goal of destroying all things not Muslim is on the doorstep of possessing nuclear weapons.
