Does anyone else think the Home Run Derby is lame?

The MLB All-Star game has experienced incredible moments very pro American if you will…. like the one where Ted Williams was brought onto the field and greeted by the players in 99,

I enjoy the hr Derby. I think the greatest one was back when he had McGuire , Sosa and Ken Griffey Junior.

It might be repetitive, but a lot of people think golf is boring and repetitive. But then again others love golf

Strength and conditioning is a part part of the derby. You can have somebody who is jacked up very muscular, but they have to save their energy and be able to last throughout the competition.
Ok I see that. I just can't get past the fact that it's batting practice. To me it would be more interesting if they hit against a pitching machine set to 90 mph piping it down the middle.

I get the reservation.. it’s the same thing over and over, but at least toward the end of it it could be very exciting at least for me. Like with Alex Bohn just barely hitting the ball to the left of the pole toward the end of the final four tonight.. effectively missing out by one homer to advance to the final round.

The human interaction makes it interesting imo Compared to a machine. And sometimes you’ve had the father of the hitter pitch the ball at the derby… which makes for a nice storyline.

I like the idea of a picture compared to a pitching machine because the picture is also part of the team ..they have to get a good rhythm going and pitch to the sweet spot of the hitter

Well like I said, if I was there I'd probably like it. But on TV you lose the sight and awesome sound of a great hitter launching a baseball. There's nothing like that sound in sports imo.

Yes, it is lame on TV, but probably okay if you are there.

I like to watch lots of runs at the game. If it's tv, then that's where I like a pitcher's duel.
Indeed.thats for sure.Having had the opportunity to see the home run derby live when they had it here in kansas city,i can tell you seeing it LIVE is far more exciting than watching it on tv which is no surprise because watching baseball live has always been fun and enjoyable but watching it on tv is about as exciting as watching paint dry.

the only time i found watching baseball enjoyable to watch on tv was back in the 70;s and 80;s during the playoffs and world series when all the small market teams had just as much a real chance to get to the world series as the big market teams did. sense the 90's i have not watched any baseball, exception being the royals and cubs when they were in the world series but thats it.same with the NFL,used to be i never missed a superbowl and watched all playoffs but the NO FAN LOYALTY LEAGUE is a joke league sense now these days, you not only dont know what team your favorite player will be playing for next season, you dont know what new city your team will be playing in next year.its a fucking joke.

the owners have ruined the sport putting a state of the art facility ahead of history and tradition, the two sports i loved playing growing up have been ruined by the owners. Only time i watch the NFL anymore is when the chiefs are in the playoffs sense you know you are watching a legend in Patricik Mahomes,I have seen a lot of quarterbacks over the decades and Mahomes is the most exciting one i have seen sense Joe Montana and John Elway whom until Mahomes came along,I put in a tie as the most exciting quarterback ever to watch. Mahomes is indeed a very rare once in a generation talent to watch so when the chiefs are in the playoffs, thats the only time i ever bother watching the NFL anymore and this is coming from a die hard LA Rams fan.

That's cool, to me it's more of a test of stamina than anything else.

Yes but HRD is more exciting than the meaningless game. See Ozuna (the "least valuable player", not run out that critical grounder to deep SS).

Maybe if they put a camera right behind home plate to show the HRD? I don't know.
I like it better than the game itself. I like the 3pt shootout in NBA best of all.

I was thinking that same thing as it was going on. It is only as good as the guy pitching. Not the same for all hitters.

just like in football the prize money skyrockedted over the years.

I am a boderline ADDICT or Fanatic on everything. I quit it all many times. But now I discovered NFL gambling. I am glued to redzone and to the phone betting live bets thru every game. I love NFL again. Mahomes made me some money. I like to think I am as smart as VEGAS but I am not. I am dumb. really dumb. But I improved over time to less dumb. When your money starts running out you wise up a little bit.

MLB is so hard to bet on. So much on that days' pitcher. I know baseball the best and I lost my shirt betting last years playoffs and WS. AZ vs. TX. I tried to be runs scored. or not scored. it is hard.

NBA was easiest of all I thought Quarter by quarter playoffs only when the mostly give an effort.
