Doctors on the frontline have thir pay cut by for profit health companies.

Private equity-backed medical staffing companies that have cut doctors’ pay are continuing to spend millions on political ads, according to Federal Communications Commission disclosures.

The ads amount to $2.2 million since Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar declared a public health emergency on Jan. 31. About $1.2 million has been spent since President Donald Trump’s national emergency declaration on March 13, the disclosures show.

The argument seems to be that Covid work is less profitable than normal healthcare. These people are heroes who are putting their lives on the line.
At the same time their employers are spending millions on tv ads defending their right to rip off sick people.

I have no idea what an "out of network cost" actually is but I suspect that it is an instrument for making people pay more than they should for a service. The price of freedom eh ?
/——-/ The hospitals were FORCED to stop elective surgery by the states. That is a major source of their income. So you hysterical snowflakes create the problem then blame the hospitals for not overcoming your stupidity.
Its another downside of a for profit healthcare system.

Actually it isn’t. These “electives” (which aren’t really) are obtainable here in the US, but aren’t in socialized healthcare states.

A lot of expensive medical procedures aren't being done in America in 2020, because of the Coronavirus Panic. Hospitals have cancelled most elective procedures like hip replacements and screening colonoscopies over the past month or so, and this is where the money is made in medicine. Physicians who devoted their lives to performing Anal Probes are sitting around with their own thumbs up their asses as the patients aren't coming in. Nurses and other medical staff are being laid off as space in hospitals are being reserved for the CV19 patients who just aren't being admitted in the numbers that the experts predicted they would.

So I suppose that all of your healthcare insurance bills have been slashed while this is going on ?

No one knows how long this panic will go on. I'm sure that if this is a long term hysteria that causes a depression in the health care field, it certainly will. But right now, its just a lucky break for the insurance firms.

The greatest "pandemic" encountered by the civilized? world is the rampant stupid spread by the really stupid who aspire to be damn stupid- and tout their talents in click bait articles amassing multitudes of heavily indoctrinated followers, spelled sheeple, who truly believe the click bait bullshit-

Surely they are now taking money under false pretences ?

What "false pretences" ? They are assuming a risk. Neither the premium payer nor the insurance concern knew that the Coronavirus Panic was going to occur or what its effect were going to be on health care claims. Unless you are suggesting that Blue Cross and United Health Care started this virus as a scam to profit from?

Insurance companies don't provide medical services at all. They provide deep pockets to cover medical expenses that might occur during the premium period. If the expenses don't occur, it isn't their fault, they were accepting the risk that they might. OTOH, if something else happened which increased the number and amount of claims, they wouldn't demand extra premiums after the fact.

Once hospitals closed to all but Chinese flu patients there was no need to have neurosurgeons, orthosurgeons, anesthesiologists, OR specialty nurses, or any other kind of specialist. The mostly empty hospitals laid off orderlies, janitors and cooks. In our local hospitals respiratory therapists had reduced hours and became screeners in the emergency room. Everyone was preparing the hospital for a surge that never came.

Nobody has lost their job over here. People have been redeployed or worked on other ways of delivering care.I had a video conference with my consultant last week. It was a bit different.
