Do you think its loser behavior to game Unemployment Income? Thats what I'm doing

It's really sticking it to everybody else, dumbass.
No it's not. Paying into the unemployment kitty is a part of an employer's payroll taxes that they're required to pay.

So when people say that unemployment benefits are earned, they actually are because you can't open a claim unless you have money in the system to fund your claim from wages you've earned.

I'm not going to judge you. But I will tell you about a former friend of mine.

He did the same thing you're doing. He is now 60 and has NOTHING! He couldn't scrape up a buck 20 for a bottle of bleach. I no longer speak to him because if I let him in my house he picks everything up & asks if he can have it. He almost had a mental breakdown over my 5 gallon bucket of change.

He lives this truly pathetic existence that I want nothing to do with! He is a FAR CRY from the man he was in high school & college. It's sad.
And you think he arrived at this place in life all because of drawing unemployment benefits?

ZoomerAmerican I don't know your age but.... Life goes by very fast... and it takes 1.5 lifetimes to set yourself up for a comfortable retirement... which means you have to go 150% at all times... resting on a measly unemployment check is not going to get you there...

I gotta disagree with that, sister. Workman's Comp sucks too.
I've been on both sides of both things.

Just seems like setting one's self up to be an Untermenschen.

I got canned from my job in January 2024. I went on unemployment benefits and collected all 39 weeks until it ran out. I recently got a seasonal job at Target, and will go back on unemployment once the seasonal job ends and then proceed to collect all 39 weeks again.

Loser behavior to do this?
Meh, tRump was in office for 4 years and milked it for 8.

You're an amateur.

Not to sound mean, but I believe that not trying for something more concrete is wrong. If things go well for you at your Target job, that is only something good that can be added to your work history when filling out your job applications and it being recent history should only make you more worth hiring elsewhere. :) :) :)

God bless you always!!!

It's part of a pattern for those who are mentally lazy. There was no reason for him not to work other than being mentally lazy. In doing so he missed opportunity after opportunity for advancement.

He even went to electrician school just to stay on the gov't dole because he was "ENTITLED" to...then after school he never became an electrician.

Such a waste of a life. He could have been alot more! Hell...he could have been SOMETHING (other than a blob on the sidewalk bitter & cold).

Could be a short trip...

I am too old to do concrete anymore...

Most people do what is necessary to accomplish the things in their life that they want and/or need. When a person foregoes this path and drops out completely, I've found it's generally because they are unable to see the benefit(s) that obtaining a degree can provide.

Another thing that a lot of people do not expect and therefore don't know how to respond to is unexpected change. When suddenly what you've been doing for the past several decades is no longer sufficient and your job is outsourced or you're replaced.

Did your friend at least start out okay and something happened to make him that way?

Better check the law. I don't think you will be eligible for another full 39 weeks. However, different states vary.

If you don't have a job, and lost your job through no fault of your own, you are a "person in need".
That is what unemployment is for
To carry you when you unexpectedly lose your job.

Not where you plan work to support your unemployment claims

I first met him in 5th grade...he was normal.

As school and life demands more of you as you grow he just didn't want to rise to the challenge...ANY challenge.

He just thought he would drift thru life, not paying attention to anything & not thinking about anything (retirement...buying a house...getting married or even a girl friend...nothing).

Now he's reaping the rewards those choices have brought him...and I certainly ain't gonna take care of him his remaining years.

He made his bed...HE'LL have to sleep in it.

"You cant always get what you want but if you try sometimes you might find you get what you need"....The Stones. The point is to grab all the federal, state and local bennies you can and if you think it's unpatriotic to apply for unemployment consider the student loans the Biden regime wanted to pawn off on taxpayers to benefit useless a-holes who never had a job.

I don't think its "unpatriotic" to claim unemployment, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to have it as your aim, particularly in the current era.

A lot of people did what the OP is doing now back in 1980-era Youngstown when the unemployment rate was 25% and people were doing what they could because there was so little out there.

But that isn't the case today.
