I got canned from my job in January 2024. I went on unemployment benefits and collected all 39 weeks until it ran out. I recently got a seasonal job at Target, and will go back on unemployment once the seasonal job ends and then proceed to collect all 39 weeks again.

Loser behavior to do this?

Is it loser behavior?

You should consult the professionals on that one.

Each unto their own.

But I wouldn't think that that would lead to a great standard of living or long term success.

Questions:
1. Have you worked the required number of hours to qualify for a new claim?
2. Did you qualify for the maximum claim amount for your 2024 claim?

Edit:
Also, it's only considered gaming the system if you're committing fraud to get the benefits. If not, then they're earned by the time you actually were working.

Are you sure that its going to work? Will you earn enough wages at Target to qualify for a UC claim?

How about if Target wants to keep you on after the holidays?

I guess if you are fine with no long term goals or a need to feel any accomplishment. It might be alright. I do not believe in it but I am not responsible for your upbringing.

Is there more to it, like drugs or alcohol abuse?

what else can it be but loser behavior??

someone that wants to succeed would get a full time job,,

Shows low moral standards
So following the letter of the law is low moral standards? I mean it's not a strategy I would employ, it's hard getting money out of the state and it's not even a living wage. But if the system allows for it and if he wants to jump through their myriad of hoops, what the hell. Pop a top.

The following shows Washington States minimum wage and maximum weekly unemployment benefit since 2017. If I recall correctly you'd have to be earning at least 40-45/hr. to qualify for the maximum weekly benefit so a simple cost/benefit analysis would show that in the year of 2022 it would not be worth while to work a minimum wage job which would pay just under $600 a week when you can draw unemployment benefits of $999 a week and use that time when you're not working to acquire a position that pays you what you should be earning.

In my opinion, utilizing this strategy is not "loser behavior" it's using what is being offered to your advantage. And I say this because there are many people who are too proud to apply for unemployment benefits even though they've earned them and they could use the financial assistance.

I'm not going to judge you. But I will tell you about a former friend of mine.

He did the same thing you're doing. He is now 60 and has NOTHING! He couldn't scrape up a buck 20 for a bottle of bleach. I no longer speak to him because if I let him in my house he picks everything up & asks if he can have it. He almost had a mental breakdown over my 5 gallon bucket of change.

He lives this truly pathetic existence that I want nothing to do with! He is a FAR CRY from the man he was in high school & college. It's sad.

Wouldn't work here, but good luck. I wouldn't call it loser behavior as long as you aren't working under the table while on UE but the benefits are so limited in my state, even drawing the max wouldn't cut it for me.

Milking the system set up for people in need is poor moral standard
