Do people talk about politics outside of a forum like this one?

Like in real life when you are with your friends or family.

We had dinner last night with 3 other couples at one of their houses and never once in 3 or so hours did anything to do with politics come up.

I golf with a very good friend whom I know supports Trump but we have never once talked about politics.

I cannot remember the last time I did outside of this forum.

Occasionally when political matters come up on the evening news, but otherwise not really.

so while calling someone else a pussy you are too scared to talk in real life at all? Hypocrite.
Again, they can’t ‘talk’ because even they know they can’t make logical rational sense of their positions whereas Republicans can win every debate with ease by simply saying “I support the Party closest aligned to the vision and intent of our founders.”

Maybe Americans are getting smarter.

Other boards-one other. I generally like to discuss history and such instead.
Real life? I will with the Wife. Occasionally with some other couples, but not more than a minute then one of us will want to change the subject to something better.
Otherwise no. if someone else is talking politics I tend to wander away.
Yup

Hold on….so you think God loving, tax paying, law abiding, American principle practicing heterosexual patriots should be considered weird outside of that Twilight Zone you’ve concocted?
No, nothing like that. I just think you're a worm.

hahahaha…again, you pass on refuting the post because you know you can’t.
See, this is the shit I run into face to face… I say something irrefutable and the purple hair goes silent.
Mic drop.

No one believes YOU would ever look even an old woman in the eye in real life. You have admitted to being a coward many, many times. The tough guy thing really doesn't work for you.

Damn, you always get so grumpy when someone says anything the least bit negtive about Democrats.

It was a simple question, you had your teacher asking you about a Senate race that just took place not that long ago.

Uh-huh.

If I had said "Ted Cruz!" She would have said, "I disagree with that choice, but I respect your opinion?"

If she had, she would be the first Democrat I ever met who did. Most of them don't even say "I'm a Democrat," instead they hurl personal insults at anyone who votes differently than they, but refuse to defend any (D) candidate they support, or pretend to support a third party candidate.

What class that you were in was she teaching?

Nope, if they were less of them would be like you and have sold their soul to the duopoly.
That's precisely the problem.

More and more, people who WANT to talk about politics are a member of one of the tribes, and they just immediately go off on their rote tangents. Everything turns into an aggressive, emotional debate rather than a thoughtful discussion. It's just not an interesting conversation.

Oh, now I see what you were pretending to be confused about.

Well, if you're going to pretend something, pretending to be confused is much more credible than when you pretend you are not a Democrat.

Again, a simple question that you cannot answer without outing yourself perhaps.

If you want someone other than the duopoly to win, then you actually have to try winning instead of just being "none of the above". That's your problem. You can't put forth a good party and you can't put forth good candidates. Hell, Libertarian Chase Oliver came right out of the gate saying his goal is to get 2% of the vote. Neither he nor his party are actually even trying to win. They are just portraying themselves as "none of the above". Ditto for everyone else who is running or has run in previous elections. They aren't good parties and they aren't good candidates so they will never win. You don't win by just being "none of the above".

Yep...

Live in Ireland, we talk about politics all the time... Everything from local, national (Ireland), EU, Britain, US and other countries.... It is in the culture to talk about politics regularly and have a good discussion/arguement, but not to get angry.

IMHO, It makes thinks far more healthy, to be able to discuss like adults about subjects. And don't worry, you be factchecked on the spot (phone out and google)...

Not talking about thinks regularly leads people to go down their rabbit hole too much. You can see it on this forum, X can't be wrong because I believe in X. Lost the ability to discuss reasonably.

To not be able to discuss reasonably would mean you are not taken seriously and your opinion would be politely ignored.

Two things discourage political discussion or argument in our culture. The first is that few people can have a disagreement and not take it personally. I personally never understood that I had a problem in this area until I went to law school, and was forced to argue my position with facts and logic, while my counterpart was doing the same. Name-calling was simply verboten, so you had to get with the program or spend your time a very unhappy human. So I got over it and now I can argue without taking it personally. Most people cannot.

Second is the Trump factor, which I blame 100% on the political Left. Political arguments today usually take the following form: MAGA's (like me) talk facts and policies and want to argue why those policies are wise and beneficial. Lefties want to talk about what a bad person Trump is, and say or imply that anyone who would vote for him is either stupid or evil...or both.

You cannot have a "debate" in that way. You either talk people or you talk policy; you can't have one side talking policy and the other side talking people.

The candidates put forth by the other parties are better quality than what the duopoly offers. But the nation has become so divided that the thought for people like you to not vote for their chosen party is beyond thinking about. You will vote for whomever the GOP puts on their ballots.

Hell, Libertarian Chase Oliver came right out of the gate saying his goal is to get 2% of the vote. Neither he nor his party are actually even trying to win.

They understand the reality of the situation in our country. Party loyalty is now the most important thing there is.
