And once again you would be wrong. 71% is the numbers but that's way up from 2009 when only 48% of Americans approved of unions.
That’s fake news. We can’t even go by polls anymore than what they said about Donald Trump in 2016 and he became president. It’s just fake news like the other poster said. Unions are pro American. Corrupt usurers and Bankers and the enemies of America hate unions.

Seems like there’s a lot of people who are afraid to stand by the American past. What are they afraid of being called a racist or something. ? What the hell is wrong with this country. I’ll tell you what’s wrong with it Instagram, social media the filth that comes with it. A high divorce rate. Low church attendance. People stuffing there mouth with big Macs and goddamn Wendy’s. People working shit hole jobs living in a fucking shit hole apartment.

It used to be excepted that you could get a $30 an hour job right out of high school now we have slaves in America who say “ oh no we shouldn’t get that no we should be slaves and content with some shit $15 an hour job no ladder up nothing.”

In the American past our country had honor and dignity because of great white men and black men who built this country. Now we’re fucking shit

Well if somebody had a bad experience with the union it really is understandable they won’t like unions. But that’s like how some individual has a bad experience with a cop. I had a bad experience with a cop once but I don’t take it out on all police officers.

You pulled that 95% number from deep up your ass. The last thing me and my coworkers want is a fucking union. We get paid nicely for our work, and we don't want to be shelling out dues and bowing to another authority that ends up bettering the union, and not the employee anyway.
Well brother I’m open to hearing you out. You know I have the upmost respect for Stonewall Jackson Thomas J Jackson I wrote a paper about him back in middle school always remember that

Wasn’t it the case that in American history that the southern states didn’t have as many union jobs as a northern ones.?

Your viewpoint is greatly appreciated as his every single posters in this thread who oppose unions. I certainly get a little emotional on this topic because unions to me are the most pro American thing in our history.

Why do you oppose ? unions do you envision the union leaders stealing all the money or something like that? How about how unions brought us pensions they brought us the ability for steel manufacturers to provide for their children to go to college.

Brother of all people I would’ve thought you would vote pro union.

what do you think about the 1950s when our country had honor and integrity and we could go get a job at the steel mill. Look at how disgusting our country is today look at the people in charge what is the bankers. I stand by American strength and dignity. What religion are you?

There’s a ton of people in banking… who oppose unions. All about wealth greed money. Who’s side are you on ?

I grew up in an era and place where unions weren't needed. I spent a career in the Army and when I retired, worked for 25 years in a publishing company. We voted against a union twice in 25 years. Our pay was above average and our insurance and retirement plans were more than generous. Maybe if I had worked in mills or factories, my attitude would have been different.

I greatly appreciate your service to this country. I have two brothers who served one as an officer a captain in United States Army

Maybe that is the case if you work at say republic steel or Ford motor company because those unions operated differently from these local unions you seem to be talking about.

fewer than 10% of American private sector workers belong to unions. If a majority favored unions, I think that number would be higher.

Socialism is evil; unions are evil. It is evil to give everyone the same pay, regardless of contribution to the operation. It discourages any incentive to be excellent. In fact, a common trait in union shops is teaching "the new guy" not to work hard and make everyone else look bad. The only reason why integrated steel mills and auto manufacturers have been able to survive with unions is because they have engineered the workplace to minimize slacking and featherbedding.

The worst unions are in the public sector, and I include quasi-private institutions like AMTRAK. They create a situation where no one is ever fired or disciplined for poor productivity, and no one is incentivized to do well. In fact, the Federal Senior Executive Service, which was created to incentivize exemplary service has been a simple giveaway that steals even more from the taxpayers by giving EVERY eligible executive the full bonus regardless of actual performance.

Unions don't have to be as bad as they are. I have seen unions in Europe that work well with management to maintain high standards and productivity, but in the U.S., the adversarial model rules, and it sucks.

One of my poker friends was a medic for 25 years he served in the Vietnam war. He also worked as a corrections officer. He’s making like $12,000 a year in pensions he deserves it. He’s serve this country. You know what’s really bad though is his wife is in a nursing home and the insurance company wasn’t covering it he was paying five or $6000 a month toward that nursing home. Somethings wrong with that picture

Anyways a big part of his pension comes from his correction officers job and that was a union job. And so the correction officers in our country have pretty strong unions

I believe that over 95% of America supports unions. But I wonder if that was the case in the 1940s or maybe it has changed today. I want to be able to convince as many people as possible here that unions are pro American, they are pro Christian they are pro traditions. They are pro civil liberties, they are pro second amendment, they are pro police and pro firefighters and pro military.

Yes there are corrupt union leaders yes they are corrupt teachers, yes there are corrupt police officers, yes there are corrupt members of the NAACP, yes there are corrupt members of the United States government. There’s corruption in every country in the world. America stands out as the most liberal and free country at all of human history. Our middle class, our military , and our economy is the best in the world because of American greatness, Because of our glorious victory in World War II where we saved the free world with our brave Soviet , Chinese and British allies ….and because of the steel workers and United States military, and the will of the American men and women through history…they all made our country great and glorious.

Rather than going to a very long post as I often do I’ll make this as short as possible. I can’t think of a better image and video to show then the one below. Because after all all of the conservatives here who say they love America who say they stand by the Second Amendment, who they who say they stand by family, Christianity and American traditions I only ask you to just look briefly at the following video because the very people you aspire to be …well they are the men and the women of the following video. The steel workers of the following video who contributed to World War II who fought in World War II. Who fought in the Vietnam war who came home and who were able to get a steel job that set them for life. I can’t think of anything else to bring forward to prove my point gentlemen and ladies. I can’t think of anything else other than this. These were and are unionized workers these are steel workers.

That is patriotism^

The power of American steel we see that above. The power of American greatness in manufacturing we see this above. Our bridges are roads, our road signs and so much more come from steel. Just the term “American steel” sounds so awesome and strong.

Which unions? There are good unions and bad unions. Unions in other countries work better, for example the education unions in the UK are better than the education unions in the US.
Why? Because the US political system is messed up and controlled by the rich, and not by the people. This is because of the electoral system.
So, yes, unions are good in theory, but they can be bad in practice if the political climate is poor, as it is in the US.

OK the united auto workers is a Union I standby. The New York State correctional officers union has provided for a few of my poker friends including a 62-year-old lady who worked as a CEO for over 35 years

I also stand by police unions and firefighters unions in general.

I don’t know much about the local unions Or smaller scale unions

Here’s what upstate New York correction officers have to deal with on an every day basis. Now there is the far left who wants to make life hell for the people who serve our police forces for the people who work at our prisons. That’s not right. Thankfully the unions for police and the unions for correction officers in New York State seem to be pretty strong that’s a good thing. Look at what the corrections officers have to deal with folks

Collins , NY – A sergeant and an officer were transported to a local hospital last week for treatment after two inmates attacked them in separate assaults at the medium security correctional facility.
The first attacked occurred on Thursday, January 12 at approximately 9:45 a.m. An officer escorted an inmate to the cell block foyer to be interviewed by a sergeant. The inmate approached the sergeant and without any provocation, attempted to punch the him in the head. The initial punch missed and the sergeant administered OC spray, which had no effect. The inmate continued his attack and struck the sergeant in the left orbital area, knocking him to the floor. The escort officer observed the attack and entered the foyer, grabbed the inmate in a body hold and forced him to the floor. The officer contained the inmate on the floor while the sergeant applied handcuffs.
Once in handcuffs, the inmate became compliant. He was brought to his feet and escorted out of the foyer.
The injured sergeant was treated by facility medical staff and transported to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital. He was treated for bruising and swelling to his left orbital area. He did not return to duty.

The escort officer sustained pain and swelling to his shoulder subduing the inmate. He was treated at the facility and remained on duty.

The inmate, who is serving his second stint in state prison, is serving a six to eight year sentence after being convicted in Bronx County in 2022 for Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd.

Prisoners try to make a fake stories about corrections officers all the time. It’s unions are what gets in the way of the prisoners trying to ruin the lives of corrections officers.

If we lived in a world that Black Lives Matter with white or the corrupt Democrats maybe a few Republicans the name only would watch. They would fire correction officers without any proof. They would believe the prisoners over the correction officers. Job protection is paramount for police officers and corrections officers and these are the men and women who keep our country safe. So when you talk about union job protection why can’t think of a better example of how unions are excellent for police officers and corrections officers.

I'm sure some of the unions are fine, I know more about education unions than others. However I know more about the impact of the US political system and how it has a negative effect on people.

I don’t know much about the education unions or teachers unions. I hear that they have their issues

But I can tell you for example the New York State corrections union is fighting the good fight. Their representatives are calling for better conditions for workers in the NYS prisons . So that’s an example of unions taking a stand for the workingman.

a lot of people on the Democrat side want to make life hellacious for police officers and correctional officers and you know what is checking them…..its the unions

Another good union from what I have heard from nurses. Would be the New York State nurses union.

I believe that over 95% of America supports unions.

So far, your own poll refutes that. As of this positing, it clearly shows that roughly 55½% DO NOT support unions, while roughly 44½% do.

For my part, I see any monopolization of any part of the economy to be detrimental to a free and competitive market.

Well over a century ago, in this country, we passed a major law prohibiting businesses from engaging in certain acts to eliminate competition among themselves, and we did so for very good reasons.

Unions are guilty of exactly the same anticompetitive behavior, at a different part of the market, and are every bit as destructive to market freedom as the anticompetitive practices were that we banned on the part of companies.

Let me put it to you this way.

My great grandfather was a trade worker, happy to finally join a union for steel workers. They were on strike all the time, and he couldn't afford to eat some days, so his kids could have a meal. His dues were a tremendous strain on him after the strikes, and he never got any good out of it, like they promised.

My grandfather was a union worker for PP&L. He was told to go on strike sometime in the 1970's I believe it was. He didn't feel it was necessary, but did it because the Union told him he wasn't being treated fairly by his employer. Long story short, strike went on for a long while, my grandfather sold off his entire coin collection to keep the family alive, and tried to pick up odd jobs just to pay the bills. After the strike was over, nothing major changed, union dues increased, and it was all for nothing.

My dad was in a union too. While he never was on strike, his union gladly increased dues year after year it seemed, and accomplished nothing in his workforce.

Unions in my families experience, only were out there to benefit themselves.

Unions may have been a good idea at first, but like all things, they got too big, too powerful, and too greedy.

Depends on the union ...

And where are the steel industries now? Most left the United States. Our city has a steel industry but it's been a fight to keep them all these years.

Unions and taxes are responsible for the loss of tens of millions of American jobs. Reagan seen that which is why he lowered taxes on businesses; to help stop the bleeding.

As a former truck driver I could write a book on my experiences with unions. If I went to a new company I knew nothing about, not speak to any employees, I could tell you if they were union in the first ten minutes while getting loaded or unloaded. This is especially true of those completely worthless UAW workers. When our Lordstown plant shut down, I celebrated for what they used to put me through.

The last union shop we serviced before I retired, the employees voted them out. Because of the union, they promoted the most useless employee to the top paying job due to tenure. The problem was he couldn't do the job, so the owner of the company had to work in the shop while the union worker stood there and watched. The other employees got pissed and kicked the union out. I was told the employees were never happier, the guy that couldn't do the top paying job was laid off, the next in line that knew how to do it was properly promoted, and they were able to layoff several other useless employees.

The problem is you are FOS. There are all kinds of good paying jobs in America today that people just won't work. The construction industry is looking for people, the Post Office is desperately looking for people, cities that need police officers are desperately looking for people, and in my former line of work, we need 50,000 drivers industry can't find.

All great paying jobs we can't get Americans to take. In fact the Democrats are using that as an excuse to usher in more foreigners.

In the United States today, if you are poor or working low wage jobs, it's a decision you made. You brought it on yourself, not a lack of any useless unions.
