Do you play a musical instrument ?

If I could only take one band on an island, I think it would be Crosby stills and Nash. 8 albums.

Pink Floyd is a good choice.

The discography of the English rock group Pink Floyd consists of 15 studio albums, six live albums, 12 compilation albums, five box sets, three EPs, and 27 singles.
So is CSN.

I love being able to sing and play guitar.

I have to go with either Pink Floyd or Dire Straits. David Gilmour and Mark Knopfler are my two all-time favorite lead guitarists. I have a lot of respect for the folks that play fast runs and arpeggios and such, because it takes a lot of work to get to that level, but Gilmour and Knopfler put so much emotion in their work. Plus -- you can sing their solos, if you have the range. :113: I don't, but that doesn't stop me from trying!
Knopfler's Telegraph Road is one of my favorite songs. Gilmour's solo on Comfortably Numb always gives me goosebumps, but my favorite guitarist is Stevie Ray Vaughan, with Jeff Beck a very close 2nd.

Personally I have a Fender Strat I bought about 55 years ago. I used to play it a lot, but never got particularly good.

I haven't picked it up in about three years now.

I know good singing. When people say “why don’t you go on American idol or the voice” I think either they’re patronizing me or they’re just trying to be nice. Those singers, any of them, are better than me. I have a pleasant voice but only some songs. Less range today because I’m old and smoke. The cool raspy also means I can’t breathe like you need to in order to belt songs out. So I sing softly, sealyify songs, just move on. Lol. The secret is play it a million times. Master it. But then by then you’re sick of playing it and you move on. Now I see why my friends who were great when I was a kid could never show me an entire song. Just the Van Halen guitar parts. The best parts. But they never played start to finish.

I’ve jammed with others. I assume you have too. That’s different than playing by yourself. Fun!

I've been playing guitar since '65. I can also play bass, drums, and keys.

I played bass for a couple of years in a top 40 Country dance band in the '90s. These days, I am a keyboard player. My mom (now passed) loved hearing old traditional hymns, like Amazing Grace, Precious Memories, etc.
I can pick these out without written music quite easily. "Nearer My God to Thee" sounds great on an electronic keyboard with the right settings.
I play these better when I'm drunk.

I just found a good one. Liar. Jelly Roll. Capo 1

Am C Dm E basically. Easy and I can sing it.

Why do I have such a hard time going to Dm? I need to practice it over and over until I nail it. But it's by far the toughest for me out of all the basic chords.

The first time I learned Dm was Mr Jones. I hate Dm Is that typical or just me?

When I find myself in that situation I go back and forth between the preceding chord and the struggle chord. One bar each, for 30 minutes. You get what you play for.

actually there's a number of chords that are just unfriendly ,hard to finger Sealy.

so what happens is, they learn to play it somewhere else on the neck , google CAGED and check it out ~S~

The Ds are my favorite. D major, D minor, Dorian mode

I do something similar with my students when learning a new chord on uke. Play the known chord 8 times, then the new chord 8 times. If that's easy, go 4 and 4. If that's easy, go 2 and 2.

Set them free to practice.

It's really important that music teachers teach children how to practice, and it should be explicit. Not just "go practice", but "Do this, and if that's easy, try this"

From 5th grade to 8th grade, I took piano lessons.

God bless you always!!!

Holly
Can you still play? I hate it when people say they use to play but then can't play anything on the piano anymore. How did you forget everything?

Even if I have forgotten 99% of my songs, I have a couple of go to guitar songs I can play if I pick up a guitar.

^^^ It's been almost 30 years now since I had any lessons.

God bless you always!!!

Holly

P.S. I guess that when you don't stick to things long enough, you eventually end up way out of practice.

So the answer is no, you don’t play a musical instrument.

4 years and you don’t know how to play? That’s not a brag. Lol

You should get back into it. Play chords. They should be easy to re learn. Learn this

Growing up left handed in the 20th century meant that everything including musical instruments were set up for right handed use so I never played. On the other hand arguably the greatest guitar player in pop history, Jimi Hendrix, was left handed and learned to play the guitar upside down.
