Do you deserve cops?

I could live without them, if we never had them, people would have been forced to defend themselves from the beginning and killed most of the ancestors of the pieces of shit that walk among us and are in prison to this day.

In fact it took a mafia to organize crime and make it effective, because people would just shoot criminals. The mafia designed a scam to tax people involved in business for protection from criminals and the government didn't like the competition. So a paramilitary police force was commissioned to counter the mafia, and we're still stuck defending ourselves, sometimes from the police as well as the mafia (and ANTIFA).

Cops are a necessary evil.

In every country.

Take Japan, where people behave themselves. There are plenty of cops.

Here in the States, where many people do not behave themselves (this week being a tragic example), can you imagine what it would be like if there were no cops?

Sure, cops are just human. Some lie, cheat, plant evidence, and even murder.

But we need them. During the 1960s, when many people criticized the cops, some people would say, "All right, then. The next time you or your family needs help, call a hippie!"

Mob had a nice gig. Their taxes on businesses were to protect them from criminal activity, hence they were known as ‘protection money.’ But if an owner balked at their shakedown scheme, the mob would unleash their criminals to help persuade them otherwise.

You mean the mob or IRS?

Do we want laws? ... if no, then the police have no role in our society ... with a gun or two, we could just kill the well-to-do family and move into their house ... a few more guns and we could take over the whole neighborhood ... we'd be as happy as Sub-Roman British ...

Yeah, drunk drivers will eventually kill themselves, but they'll take a lot of others with them ... if that's what you want, why don't you cut taxes where you live and fire 7/8's your officers? ...

The greatest empire that ever existed, Rome, had no police force...

Trump missed a golden opportunity to fix the systemic police brutality problem. Had he set up a policy to remove all rogue cops, prosecutors, police chiefs, etc who have allowed this problem to fester, he would have won over large segments of the black population and other races.

Unfortunately, he just ain’t that smart. He chose instead to double dumb on dumb.

Actually, they did ... Cohortes urbanae or city cohorts. Organized para-military legions under control of the city prefect were charged with keeping order and bringing offenders before the court.

There are nearly 5,000 police departments in the USA. City, County, and State jurisdictions. Except for Federal Police, there is no power for The President to dictate policies.

The Cohortes urbanae were assembled only to quell insurrection, and threats to the government. Joe public was on his own until the status quo was disrupted. Most specifically their function was to counter the growing strength of the Praetorian Guard. Again, there was no captain save a hoe, or Barney Fife activity. And nothing at all resembling police, or policing as we know it.

Sure. The potus today essentially has almost unlimited power. Just using his bully pulpit, could have done much.

Are you sure government troops did not patrol the streets?

Through history people have always had laws and government of some form or another, and taxed people to pay for the salaries of some tough mother fuckers that kept weaker mother fuckers from doing nefarious shit. At least at some level or another.

There was a unique period in the US when there were no police though, there were no soldiers in the street. You had the capacity and legal right to arm yourself and defend against criminal agression.

Then came the lawyers....

Yes they patrolled, and were tasked with enforcing taxation and the flow of goods. Much of the city of Rome, at the markets, and slums levels were “governed” by what we would consider mafia bosses/gangs. These entities maintained low level order in their districts, and were given free reign to maintain order as they saw fit so long as they towed the Governer, or Praetors line.

I pay for cops with my tax dollars, so yes, I 'deserve' them when I need them.

can't believe i'm answering such a stupid OP

I posted this in another thread....and am so sorry to ruin your day.......

4. “The theory of the Communists can be summarized in a single sentence: Abolition of private property.”
Marx and Engels, “Manifesto of the Communist Party,” Great Books, p. 425
Hence......the Democrat supported riots......

5. Now….about that ‘Serve and Protect’ thing:

Police functions include protecting life and property, enforcing criminal law, criminal investigations, regulating traffic, crowd control, public safety duties, civil defense, emergency management, searching for missing persons, lost property and other duties concerned with public order.

6. In one of many truly stupid and counterintuitive decisions, the Supreme Court has decided

Neither the Constitution, nor state law, impose a general duty upon police officers or other governmental officials to protect individual persons from harm — even when they know the harm will occur,” said Darren L. Hutchinson, a professor and associate dean at the University of Florida School of Law.
Police Have No Duty to Protect You, Federal Court Affirms Yet ...

Sorry. That’s a hair way too fine to split.
