It's just like those scam phone calls that promise you something free. There's always a catch somewhere.

Not to mention the fact that they're going to starve due to food shortages but what about free rent? Well what's going to happen when landlords aren't profiting off of their property anymore? They're probably going to sell off their property just so they can have the funds to survive as this is New York so they probably don't have any other jobs.


That puts many people out on the street and homeless. No food, no shelter. I mean correct me if I'm wrong but I think I pretty much got it all figured out much faster than them and this is coming from somebody who received special education as a child.



Ah well, I guess that some people just have to learn their lesson the hard way. If something seems too good to be true, then it probably is. RIP NYC. It was nice knowing you.

Now I originally posted in my OP that food prices will probably skyrocket as well but New York is all about giving out everything for free so I scratched that. What's going to happen when there's no food left though is my question.

NYC's tax base is shrinking while Mamdani is planning to expand spending. That's exactly what happened to Detroit. The only way he will be able to provide free rent is to seize the rental properties WITHOUT COMPENSATION to the landlords which will be tied up in the Federal Courts for decades. Even taking them under eminent domain requires the government to pay "fair" market prices. He doesn't have the money to buy all the rental properties at anything approaching "fair" market prices, and then he will have to spend more money to maintain them. History has shown that municipality owned housing always deteriorates because the renters and owner have no incentive to care for it.
