Do Federal/State/Local Governments Create Jobs?

The Government is a major sector of our jobs market that is constantly attacked by conservatives

The government is a major sector for useless parasites who receive a paycheck. Every government employee is just a weight around the taxpayer's neck. Why wouldn't anyone attack that?
come on out and carry a mail route....at the end of the week we will see if you will say the same thing....

If the mail was delivered by private firms, it would cost half as much and arrive in half the time.

Government cannot create jobs Virtually all government jobs are paid for by taxes taken from corporations and private citizens. That represents money that cannot be spent on improving products, inventing new ones, etc. Obviously some government functions are necessary, like patent office and courts. But the vast majority of the bureaucracy represents dead loss--money thrown down a pit.
Like pay for police and firemen.

Policemen and firemen are grossly overpaid, especially when it comes to their pensions.

Whenever, and far too seldom by the way, infrastructure projects are developed, someone has to engineer it, construct it and maintain it.

There are thousands of private sector employees hired as a result.

Whenever there is construction, someone has to inspect it for safety and structural integrity. While private sector employees are building, a public sector employee must conduct the required inspections. Without those inspections, insurance policies cannot be written, the public is at risk from a potential fire hazard or collapsing structure.

Does government create jobs? It sure does, in both the private and public sectors

And we see that you disdain workers and retirees.

I suppose everyone should be Bill Gates.

But what the shallow thinking Reactionary fails to understand is Bill Gates is the exception, not the rule.

I've heard many GOPers say they don't. However, I feel strongly that they do. All one has to do is think about it for a minute and the answer should become obvious. However, the biggest job creators are consumers with money to spend.

Of Course the Government Can Create Jobs - Forbes

GOVERNMENT DOESN’T CREATE JOBS?!?!?!? SINCE WHEN???

Need and demand create jobs. People create jobs. A job is created by them who CAPITALIZE on the need. Ultimately, the market determines if there is a need or demand and adjusts itself to fill that need. A government can sometimes be a catalyst used by the market but its not the government's duty to create jobs.

The government provides essential public services. To pretend we don't need schools, police, defense, a monetary system, a legal system is just anarchy

Oh wait....I'm talking to fingerboy

Those can all be provided by private companies at a much lower expense.

It is still government employment funded by taxpayers

. Fingerboy, you willing to turn our treasury and legal system over to private companies?
You are dumber than I thought

No, I have no intention of turning the treasury over to private companies. I plan on eliminating the treasury.

Anarchy 101

Nonsense. Private firms already deliver mail. It's not any cheaper.

For daily cheap delivery private firms would probably limit to PO boxes where you have to take a drive to get your mail. House to house daily is a large cost. They'd probably make you wade through a coffee house with tons of product up-sells just to get your mail.

Here is another example. Flash ain't smart enough to realize that all that armament needed for the defense/offense of the nation are built by private sector, for profit, capitalist companies. Who hire private citizens to do the JOBS that need to be done to build the weapons and support materials. Hence jobs created by the defense industry due to orders from the government.

Amazing levels of stupidity flash has.

I think you have just proven what a dumbass you are. You need to really take a course in economics so that you won't be showing everybody how ignorant you are every time you post something.

When a country goes to war it builds up a war industry that produces profit and jobs but it is at the cost of private investment because the money that is used to fund the industry is taken out of the productive economy and the profit and jobs that would have been created with that money is lost.

It is like the broken window in the Broken Window Fallacy.

The irony is that you are only focusing on what is seen and don't realize what is unseen.

Specifically, you are strictly focusing on money that is spent, and not taking into consideration wealth that is otherwise unused. You are also focusing on the face value of a transaction without looking at it's ability to return greater value.

People who make half the money and who don't get a pension are paying for police and firemen to get a 100% pension after working only 20 years. That means some retire when they are 52. They are retired longer than they worked.

So if you think that policemen and firemen aren't any better than the rest of us and are not entitled to gold plated pensions, then you "hate workers and retirees?"

Where do they train drones like you to spew these knee-jerk platitudes?

It's illegal for private firms to deliver 1st class mail.

We've already had this discussion in the past, and I don't want to have a repeat.

There are many private occupations more dangerous then being a policeman or fireman. Construction, crab fishing, mining and farming are all more dangerous. I don't see you shedding any crocodile tears when they get killed on the job.

It's even worse in some areas. In my neck of the woods, alot of departments only require 15 years on the job. It's common practice for alot of cops to log 15 years with one department, and then go work somewhere else while collecting a pension off the first job. After logging a second 15 year stint they finally retire from the workforce altogether with a double pension.
