Disney admits it has suffered for its culture war

I am discussing what you posted

“in which Disney gives up the unacceptable sometimes perverse social engineering and goes back to providing non controversial, wholesome, enjoyable family entertainment?”

The biggest “boycott” due to wokeness this summer was The Little Mermaid

Should Disney pander to those who can’t stand a black in a leading role?
Disney put black people into their films with no problem whatsoever before they went 'woke'. But once they went 'woke' recasting old favorites with black actors looks contrived, gratuitous. It is not helping black people any more than is the ridiculous agenda to make more than half of people in advertising black these days.

The way to normalize black people and make them 'lovable' is to cast them in roles that skin color is immaterial or in roles in which the character must be black. Morgan Freeman once said that the ONLY role he has ever played that required him to be a black man was "Driving Miss Daisy." Every other role he has played, and he has a ton of them to his credit, could have been played by anybody. Any nobody doesn't know who Morgan Freeman is or doesn't view him favorably. He is usually perfect for the roles he plays.

Nobody cares what color the Little Mermaid is and if a black person had been cast in the role in the first place it would still be the beloved film that it is. But now changing the image of the Little Mermaid to a black person seems contrived, gratuitous, in your face social engineering and people don't want movies to be in their faces with social engineering.

A black person named "Snow White" is as ridiculous as would be a white man cast in the role of Martin Luther King or Medgar Evers.

Disney chose woke filth over wholesome family American centric entertainment as envisioned by Walt and now it is paying the price.

Is The Little Mermaid woke filth?
Why did Conservatives boycott it?

What is not “wholesome” about a black lead character?

What makes a black mermaid material?
What in the story says mermaids must be white?

The young woman had a great voice and was very good in the role. Why did conservatives boycott a film for casting a black in the lead ?
Are you trying to protect children from seeing an interracial relationship?

If Woke is killing Disney, why isn’t their competition producing non-woke fare to appeal to bigots?
They are....but on tightly held budgets...a little too tight.

Enter Netflix, and Prime movies.

They don't have the budget to go really big production and make profits. And they don't go through Hollywood.

The box offices are controlled tightly by TWO Guys that you will never hear about. They actually control the box office entirely by what they will or won't show. (Only two theatre chains in the US)
Mel Gibson ran squarely into this when he made "Passion of the Christ" because they flat refused to release the movie. Others have made movies and never had them released because of flat refusals.

There actually are thousands of movies in vaults that never have been released or played in public because of these two guys.

Disney's new film Wish is a flop.

Everyone all over the world is welcome to Rosas as everyone who comes utters a wish for the king to grant them. They accept people from all over the world who want to move to Rosas just to take part in the kingdom and to potentially have their wishes granted,” Chen explains.
When we find out “this whole benevolent wish facade, it actually hides, somewhat similarly to Planet Fitness as well, a cruel tyranny under the surface.”
The movie only makes less sense as it goes on.
“All the people who were writing the script — they did not have a coherent idea as to, like, what exactly the message or the theming was going to be here,” Chen says.

“This film is ultimately just a great example of how Disney is floundering in the modern era, and it’s not even due to wokeness.”

I see the message in the film, it is about unfettered illegal immigration into the US.

These people are so transparent and stupid.

But if you read the article I just posted...
Guess which franchise is up for destruction next?

The entire Doctor Who franchise.

It's had periods of brilliance with great actors and scripts and periods where it was absolute trash. Then there were periods of a blend of the two.

Currently Disney has purchased it (after the BBC trashed it with woke nonsense)....
Let's see what happens with Disney destroying it.

The Doctor Who franchise operated on very very low budgets but employed brilliant up and coming script writers and actors.
When trash cans with a toilet plunger attached are primary weapons and a creature....yeah, some imagination was used. The sonic screwdrivers were made of anything of hand held glued together bits. (Silverware with ink pens and marbles)

They went on a rant about guns a while back but that screwdriver replaced the firearms. (Along the same vane as Batman's utility belt replaced his pistols)

Again, I see a high budget disaster coming about.

Since you pointedly sidestepped the points I made and went back to the 'ism accusation of conservatives, I will just wish you a pleasant afternoon.

In this case right is including those who are different than traditional stereotypes into our culture and society

You're forgetting that the purpose of making these movies/shows is to make a profit by appealing to as broad a base of viewers as possible. Normal fans don't care nearly about traditional stereotypes as those on the left does. They want good acting and a good story. Putting a black person in a "traditional stereotype" role and patting yourself on the back as being diverse is being intellectually lazy and people see right thru it. Also, it's not like those who believe that they're doing the "right thing" is bothering to spend money/time watching it themselves. If they did, Disney wouldn't have so many movies/shows that are flops. I saw a Christmas movie on Netflix called "Jingle Jangle" that has a majority black cast. It was a good movie. Want to know why? Because it was ORIGINAL movie (not a race-swapped version of some other movie), and the storytelling in the movie was good. If Disney spent time doing THAT kind of content, I think more people will come out and watch..

They obviously spend time doing both. Once soon a time Peter Pan was played by a woman. Did you have a hissy fit about that?

Did you complain when Bond went from brunette to a blond guy?

Did you know back in Shakespeare days many of the women’s rolls were played by men?

These are characters in a story and there are many ways to tell that story. It has been happening since the beginning of storytelling. To make a big deal because of race is only displaying bias and bigotry

You're free to continue to give Disney your money.

The ship sailed. The country witnessed that just about every film with historical white characters were replaced by blacks after Saint Floyd made the ultimate sacrifice. It's not just films but commercials on radio and TV, and printed ads. That got people believing that movies and ads with blacks are not more than pushing an agenda. It's funny that leftists never bothered to force diversity on the NFL and NBA for more diverse teams.

As Disney tries to convert as many children into their woke cult, it appears they have suffered financially for it. This just shows that they are more interested in indoctrination than they are making money.

Disney suffered a 14% decrease in domestic advertising revenue due to fewer impressions.

Disney revealed that ESPN subscribers decreased by 7% from the previous year.

The company noted that costs of products have increased by 11% – in part due to inflation.

Walt Disney Company admitted that engaging in culture wars has inflicted major impacts across the board.

"We face risks relating to misalignment with public and consumer tastes and preferences for entertainment, travel and consumer products, which impact demand for our entertainment offerings and products and the profitability of any of our businesses," the SEC filing stated. "Our businesses create entertainment, travel and consumer products whose success depends substantially on consumer tastes and preferences that change in often unpredictable ways."

Disney said the "misalignment" with its consumers has impacted "broadcast, cable, theaters, internet or mobile technology, and used in theme park attractions, hotels and other resort facilities and travel experiences and consumer products."

Disney said its products are sometimes "introduced into a significantly different market or economic or social climate from the one we anticipated at the time of the investment decisions."

The entertainment conglomerate confessed that its environmental and social goals present "risks."

"Further, consumers’ perceptions of our position on matters of public interest, including our efforts to achieve certain of our environmental and social goals, often differ widely and present risks to our reputation and brands," Disney admitted. "Consumer tastes and preferences impact, among other items, revenue from advertising sales (which are based in part on ratings for the programs in which advertisements air), affiliate fees, subscription fees, theatrical film receipts, the license of rights to other distributors, theme park admissions, hotel room charges and merchandise, food and beverage sales, sales of licensed consumer products or sales of our other consumer products and services."

Disney said its leisure business is affected by various factors, including health concerns and the political environment.

We all have comfort zones. When intruded upon we start to reject it. Perhaps they can make several versions of the same character at the same time with multiple people playing the same characters and the stories written for the people directed at. And each of us will pay for what we want to see. Do not charge anyone for something for other people. All profits go to the version watched and for future films and entertainment. Pay for what you want with getting what you want. Watch the screaming when the free propaganda is removed.

Who is “they”? A variety of people decide to make movies and plays. The stories are told depending on their vision and interpretation. Sometimes they are original and other times they are remakes. This ain’t a new thing. Bit here we are with a portion of people getting their panties in a bunch when race is changed. Hmmm, wonder why ?!
