How Title IX applies
- Institutions must operate in a nondiscriminatory manner
- Institutions cannot retaliate against people who oppose unlawful practices or policies
- Institutions must have grievance procedures to respond to sexual misconduct
History of Title IX
- President Richard Nixon signed Title IX into law on June 23, 1972
- Birch Bayh (D–IN) introduced the bill in the Senate on February 28, 1972
