‘Dilbert’ cartoonist Scott Adams dies at 68

/——/ Dilbert was the number one cartoon for years.

But it lost cultural relevance years ago.

Did you know that he drastically changed his character design in 2014?

This is how everyone imagines Dilbert

But this is how Adams drew him after 2014.

He was supposedly reflecting the way people dress in offices now (polo shirts replacing a shirt and a tie, with a ID card on a lanyard. Oh, never work at a company that makes you wear one of those.) Wally, Alice, and the Pointy-Haired Boss got similar redesigns.

I suspect he was trying to simplify the design so it would be easier to draw.

But what is interesting is every discussion about the "controversy" used the design that hadn't been seen in 9 years.

We don't see "racism" everywhere and in everyone we encounter or communicate with.

You loony Leftist are obsessed with "racism" everywhere and in everyone, yet you fail to see how often you express such yourselves.

No, you ignore racism when you see it.

"He should have obeyed the law!"

"Affirmative Action is bad (but white privilege is fine.)

"He should have obeyed the law!" Yeah. Why is that wrong?

"Affirmative Action is bad (but white privilege is fine.) Said no conservative ever.

So true.

You usually say that after some cop has pumped 16 rounds into an unarmed black kid.

Conservatives are fine with white privilege; they just call it other things.

And? I have my opinion, you have yours, they have theirs.

IMHO he wasn't funny.

I have to disagree. Early on in the strip's run, Dilbert was very funny because almost anyone who works in an office can relate to him.

We've all had someone like the Pointy-Haired Boss.
We've all had a co-worker like Wally who is completely useless, but somehow maintains employment.
We've all dealt with the absurdity of Corporate Life.

So he kind of hit a chord for that generation of Boomer office workers.

Later on, he clearly lost his edge and his relevance. He started drinking the MAGA bleach, and it showed in his work. (For instance, he finally introduced a black character named "Dave", and used him to attack workplace diversity.)

But the real problem Dilbert had was- nobody reads newspapers anymore.

And again, you have your opinion.

I don't have to share it.

I enjoyed Dilbert for years. But, one day, he posted something deemed offensive, and papers across the country dropped him. He set up a website to continue his cartoons, but he made it a paywall. I never signed up for it. - Morte

“Dilbert” cartoonist Scott Adams is dead at 68 after a battle with prostate cancer.
The satirist from Windham died following a long battle with prostate cancer, according to his ex-wife, Shelly Miles. She announced the news on Tuesday during a live stream on his YouTube channel, Coffee with Scott Adams, reading a statement Adams prepared prior to his death .

“I had an amazing life,” the statement said in part. “I gave it everything I had.”

The comic artist frequently gave fans updates about his condition, which had spread to his bones, after announcing in May that he expected “to be checkin’ out from this domain sometime this summer.”

My husband loved Dilbert in the 90s. But in the end, Scott Adams had a failed life in many ways

He dumped his first wife, married an Instagram model decades younger than him, and she left him within two years.

When he was dying of cancer, the 2nd wife is nowhere to be found. His ex wife took care of him.

There is no honor in this. This is why the Bible says "....the wife of your youth" and not "Your second hotter wife"

Um, wow, Sue, really?

So he divorced his first wife in 2014 (They had only been married for 8 years) to marry his second wife in 2020. Doing simple math, (I know, this confuses you) that means he waited six years for the "instagram model".

Was Instagram even a thing in 2014?

Of course, he married Wife #1 in 2006, when he was already in his fifties, so hardly the "Wife of his Youth".

I know he was dating an Asian chick in the 1990's, because he did a guest bit on Babylon 5 where she dressed up as a Minbari.

(NERD ALERT!)

/----/ Post a link where I ever said that. I won't hold my breath.

I can tell the difference between "racism" and personality defects and/or cultural/ethnic traits.
I remember years ago a Black co-worker fresh to America from Africa and he asked me:

"What is wrong with your Black people ? Why don't they use the advantages they have in this country ?"

When 'Ancestry.com' tells me my two sons are one quarter black*, I'm thinking I don't have the "racism" problem you do.
* Think you are bright enough to figure what that says about their mother ?

I don't think "yellow" can be racist, either.

It's very simple. Minorities might be bigoted, but they can't be "racist" because they lack the institutional power to favor their own race in policy. Even Affirmative Action/DEI is white people growing a conscience and saying, "Yeah, we'll take a little less privilege today, I'm full."

Stop sniffing that bottle of Elmer’s glue will ya. Racism doesn’t require government, organization, or institution involvement or lead the way. Individuals of all walks of life can be racist. Don’t go on with this own race policy stuff. Every demographic prefers to be with their own kind and that has nothing to do with racism. It’s natural instinct. Animals do it. Humans share more genes with a mouse than with dogs. We are indeed belong to the animal kingdom.

Tell you what, I want you to go to work tomorrow (assuming you have gainful employment) and say the kinds of stuff Adams said.

My guess... you won't have a job for long, either.
His statements were taken out of context. But you are correct, If I were to say the same thing, my same words would be taken out of context also. I think Adams knew the risk that what he was saying would be taken out of context; however, by that time he had plenty of FU money and didn't need to continue any "gainful employment".

Mohammad Ali agreed with you.

That guy who just got off the boat didn't experience generations of institutionalized racism, did he?

Um, we are all the same species. The thing is, when you get different breeds of dogs together, they generally tend to get along.

Humans like to get tribal- Race, Religion, Nationality... and there's no good reason for it.

Or he was trying to stir up some controversy, as his merch and distribution sales were declining, and it blew up in his face.

Oh, you mean like Affirmative Action?

That may be. But it's a reality. Deal with it.

Actually, most contracts have morality clauses that allow them to fire you if you go on a racist rant or are caught with a 15 year old. Or if the strip just isn't popular anymore, which Dilbert wasn't at that point.
who's morality? the liberals at the paper and it was not a racist rant, it was sociology 101
Um, what he said was totally racist. He said we should bring back segregation because of a flawed Ratmuffin poll that said 24% of blacks said it wasn't okay to be white.

nope, see above and he did not suggest bringing back segregation, many people hang out with their own culture and segregate themselves, it's not forced it's voluntary
Wow, seriously, are you this ignorant of history?

Chinatowns exist because of racist policies to exclude Chinese people from living amongst white people and learing at the white women!

Of course, the Chinese, being Chinese, were able to turn them into tourist opportunities!

Most Chinese Americans don't live in Chinatown. (And usually the ones who do are recent immigrants who are still assimilating.)

not exactly, chinatown was to create a place so they felt like home but were not home
same with harlem

so it's ok for minorities to go into a place like St paul which was mostly white and ruin it but how dare
any white people take over harlem or chinatown

you see how that works in reverse?
