Of course not, the point is that increasingly so, more and more of them are socialist leaning and kooks, and that this trickles upwards into even the mainstream candidates! Many people would agree that Obama and probably Hillary were socialists or socialist-leaning, and yes, many others would argue that Trump is a kook. What is interesting is how many people feel that socialism, which has never worked, is the solution to the capitalism which has brought us to the highest standards of living, technology and world power.

I have no idea how many socialist candidates there may have been in previous elections, so I can't really comment on your claim that there are more of them.

It isn't as if these are two separate things, one affecting the other; they are all one group of candidates; like an iceberg, many beneath the water and only a few above, but as most fall more to the left and get crazier, so too does the main candidates that we vote on above.

Today we have actors(?), businessmen, president's wives, social organizers, drug users and absolutely flipping loons running for office; I bet if you looked back to the 80's and earlier, say when Reagan or Carter was running, LBJ, JFK, etc., not only would you not find a TON of alternate fringe candidates, but the ones who WERE running under alternate party affiliations were maybe Libertarians, Constitutionals, etc., not socialists, communists, revolutionaries, dope smokers and 27 year old "princesses." And the candidates were legitimate people: Generals, Senators, Congressmen, etc., not some fruits that crawled out from under some rock.

The quality, QUALIFIED people aren't running anymore, because the nation no longer looks for the qualifications of the individual (that would require an informed nation), it looks for their cult of personality, charisma and personal appeal. Look at the first 38 Presidents--- --- other than maybe a couple to some degree, most had little if any personal appeal as interesting people (looks, personality, etc.). It all seems to have begun with JFK, the Peanut Farmer Carter, and taken off with Reagan and Clinton. Will we ever be able to have serious, traditional, "presidential" candidates again?

And things like socialism are so much LESS limited? Russians are POOR, and the entire, gigantic country has the economy of one of our states. Even China is slowly moving away from communism towards a more democratic society and their economy has for years fairly boomed. What should I do, take off the blinders so that you wear them instead? Capitalism has built a nation of wealthy people and a fantastic standard of living where even the poorest have cars, cellphones, big screen TVs, air-conditioning and the like. Look at the poor in other countries. We were the first to go to the Moon, invent the Atom Bomb, the transistor, computers and a hundred other things, and it was capitalism which has raised us to where we are the world economic standard for the dollar, and the first place other countries come to for protection and help.

I agree, and there were quite a few that year, but if you keep going back there is a point all this started. Looking at 1960 in JFKs time, there were only two, while there were six pro-American parties:

And going back to 1952, there were only 8 candidates and a few were socialist, but Eisenhower took 55% of the popular vote and 83% of the electoral college!

Just thought you might like to know that beyond Trump and Hillary, and the Democrats and Republicans, you also had THESE choices for Executive office:

The Green Party: Ajamu Baraka. Oddly similar sounding to Barack? Is he good for the environment?

Party of Socialism and Liberation: Gloria LaRiva (California)

Socialist Party: Emidio Soltysik (California)

Socialist Workers Party (I guess they are the only socialists who ever believed in working?)

Revolutionary Party: Princess Khadijah Jacob Fambro (California)

The Prohibition Party (I guess they are out to stop you from doing everything?)

The U.S. Pacifist Party (I guess they are out to not stop anyone from doing anything?)

Independent Party: Joe Exotic Maldonato (multicolored hair and earrings)

The Workers World Party: Monica Moorhead (New York)

The Nutrition Party (I guess they campaign for a better way to eat)

Legal Marijuana Now Party: Dan Vacek. This guy looks sewed up real tight to run the nation:

So now you know. You had at least SIX communist parties to pick from, one environmental party, one health party, one dopers party, and at least four parties that wanted to be free, to placate, or to suppress someone.

So if you DID NOT AVAIL YOURSELF of any of these fine American choices to run this country, then you really have NO excuse for voting for or complaining about Donald or Hillary!

Or maybe Donald and Hillary are looking a little better?

WHAT EVER HAPPENED to this country that we have so many LOONS running for PRESIDENT? And FOUR of the top nut-jobs are either from California or New York?

What does that say about the health of the country?

Seems the solution is pretty clear:

Cut New York State and California free from the United States, put up a BIG WALL, never let anyone in from either and just shoot anyone who wants to join, and we have 99% of all our problems solved. When we have people AGAINST America and its constitution actually allowed to run for its president, I would say that not only has the mental state and education of our country failed, but so has the very SYSTEM.

When a nation sits back and freely ALLOWS people AGAINST IT to not only enter and live, but be citizens and run for the highest office, all the while DEFENDING THEIR RIGHT to do so and claiming that THIS IS THE AMERICAN WAY, then you have a nation that has lowered itself to SELF-DESTRUCTION.

When you have a president elected by half the nation on the basis of STOPPING THIS, of stopping illegal alien non-citizens from gaining access outside the legal channels and getting benefits and rights from living here, when you have a president elected on the basis of cleaning up corruption, building our infrastructure, jobs, security and economy with a 50-year track record of success in doing this privately and returning us to our rule of laws again, and he is ATTACKED for this as a xenophobe, a white supremacist, an idiot, a clown, a dangerous LOON, then we have a nation on the brink if not already over the edge of the precipice of dangerous insanity.

Looks like a whole lot of Commie in there.

In the 1980 presidential election there was the Socialist Party USA, the Citizens Party (an environmentalist party), and Communist Party USA. Fringe candidates, including socialist and communist candidates, are nothing new.

I agree, and there were quite a few that year, but if you keep going back there is a point all this started. Looking at 1960 in JFKs time, there were only two, while there were six pro-American parties:

And going back to 1952, there were only 8 candidates and a few were socialist, but Eisenhower took 55% of the popular vote and 83% of the electoral college!

And in 1860, there were no socialist, subversive or commie type parties at all:

Some of it has to do with society being more accepting of fringe views, some of it has to do with technology and the ability of people to reach a wider audience, some of it has to do with population growth, there are probably a lot of factors.

Most of it has to do with government-run schools and universities promoting a socialist agenda while questioning and even criticizing America's past, A lot of it has to do with the promotion of these ideas as normal, funny and acceptable in our movies and culture via Hollywood and then enforced and protection of them through legislation protecting such ideas and lifestyles and attacking anyone who examines and questions such things calling it "hate-speech," "white supremacy," and "xenophobia." A lot of it has to do with special interests lobbying such things in public under the impunity of laws meant to foster them, and driving the public into quiet submission for fear of being called out, attacked, or even fired from their job for bigotry or lack of acceptance being against the "American Way" of being diverse and open to "new ideas."

In other words, McCarthy was right all along.
