How could we know?Or is it just a legend?
.How could we know?
If it is true, it was pure provocation, though, as nobody of the regular population could even read his own language.
The reformation was carried out by Reformators who spoke to the public, not wrote any stuff nobody could read.
Or is it just a legend?
Never heard this version. As my wife (former Cistercian Nun) Martin Luther nailed his Theses to the door, only to see it torn down. He then protested saying the Church should be open to pubic criticism. He was then excommunicated for speaking out against Catholic Doctrine.
Never heard this version.
Luther‘s theses were against indulgencies.
Then he did not oppose Catholic doctrine.
He even praised the Pope in certain points

That is the version I heard throughout my youth growing up in a LCMS (Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod) church and family. That is how all the Lutheran pastors and teachers in my family describe it as well.Never heard this version.
So it is..
Interesting. If we're talking about the elite "buying" indulgences, I agree with him. I, personally, earn my indulgences by regular Mass attendance, Confession, Holy Communion, et cetera, and other devotions.
Is it the centuries of his followers that made up the things that modern Lutherans believe, like Catholics "worshiping" the Virgin Mary and believing things that are not in the Bible?
.
He hadbeen a devout Catholic for a long time
Do you agree with him on thisLuther‘s theses were against indulgencies.
Then he did not oppose Catholic doctrine.
