God didn't smite a lot of people.

AI Overview

Estimating a precise "kill count" for God in the Old Testament is complex, but various analyses of biblical texts suggest figures ranging from approximately 2.5 million to 25 million deaths. These numbers vary significantly based on whether they include direct killings with explicit numbers (like the plagues or battles) or larger-scale indirect deaths such as the Great Flood and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

God (The Bible)

Lot didn't do anything wrong.

by (R) bible thumpers standards ... i guess he didn't.

His daughters may have been little tramps.

well, they didn't mind fornicating with their daddy.

Even those who follow the Lord's Word can fall from grace. Don't equate lack of smiting with approval.

hate yer next door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace.

seems God did a lot of smiting in the OT
what exactly is smiting?

In the Bible, to "smite" means to strike or inflict a heavy blow, often as an act of divine judgment, punishment, or warfare. It can describe God striking down the wicked (such as the firstborn in Egypt) or empowering individuals to strike their enemies (like David smiting Goliath). The term also has a metaphorical meaning, referring to affliction or a deep emotional impact.

Biblical Contexts
  • Divine Judgment and Punishment:
God frequently "smites" to punish sin or express His authority. For example, God smote the Nile waters, turning them to blood, as a sign against Pharaoh.
    • Warfare and Conflict:
The term is used for both divine intervention in war and the acts of human warfare, such as David smiting Goliath with a sling and a stone.

He seems not be interested in the topic.
so it cant be so sinful as some think.
More likely, it wasn't an issue--let alone a controversial one--in Jesus' day. Had Jesus spoken about it at all, indicating it was kosher, that would have been news that ended up in a Gospel story or teaching simply because it went against rabbinical teaching.

I've read the Bible and heard it read to me over and over at daily Mass for decades

I think Jesus said something like

Don't be a pervert

Just kidding! LOL

But he did say to a woman caught with (presumably) a man in adultery

Go and sin no more

So yeh... at least she (again, presumably) had the gender thing right.

How much more would Jesus be against homosexual relations?

Paul is not Jesus.
No but he was one his chosen as an apostle and received direct revelation from him. As a disciple of Jesus, Paul taught what he knew Jesus believed.

These are words of Jesus that were directly given to Moses from Him.

Leviticus 20:1,13
1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Jesus is the God of the Old Testament. For my post on this see post #37.
