To suspend a campaign less than 40 days from an election is frankly a little too close to what can be called insanity. With the whole Republican Party bewildered and millions of dollars in contributions at stake McCain rolls the dice.

Anyone smelling the putrid stench of a big dirty rat?

Perhaps insanity is too strong a word; however madness which is closely related to insanity may be a better description. It’s just completely crazy to suspend a campaign this close to a general election without an alternate plan. The republican candidate understands his hero status has been greatly tarnished for chickening out of a much needed debate.

Now seeking to become a hero of the economy super McCain plays Mr. Fix-it and rescues Wall Street. He returns to the campaign that was never really suspended as champion of the little guy for helping the fat cats receive a 700 billion dollar free lunch at taxpayer expense.

This whole scenario implies something extremely smelly about the so-called banking dilemma. Without inside information about the recovery of the banking system it’s crazy to risk his whole campaign on a gamble. The 700 billion plot must be another financial scheme similar to the corruption born out of the whole “Keating 5” play book updated, modified and enlarged for 2008.

Our Anti-American, Anti-journalism, communist news media plays a major role in the vast pyramid scheme our financial system has become since the creation of the bogus Federal Reserve system. The news media's misguided focus has been on experience, However "integrity" is where the focus should be. Look at all the experience of Cheney, however he is as corrupt as they come.

You're saying this is a conspiracy of some sort?

Nah, the guy is a complete hack. He may have had some sort of stroke (his droopy eye) and he is realizing what a buffoon Palin is, and suspending his campaign is a way to throw a monkeywrench in the works and get some rest at the same time. But for Jake's sake he really *ought* to be able to multitask if he hopes to be POTUS.

Bush calling the candidates to the whitehouse, yeah, that was schemng, but in general McCain's stunt was just hack-iness.

The georgian thing might have some conspiracy elements though. I never saw enough one way or the other on that.

No, he didn't chicken out, and I wish some of you knuckleheads would read what's on the board before asking the same question one of your bretheren leftoids already asked.

BOTH McCain and Obama are sitting Senators -- McCain a senior one. I'm sure that boot Obama would be missed less, but they have a job to do and they need to do THAT first.

Or do you see campaigning for personal advancement as more important than dealing with a national econimic crisis? The answer to that should probably decide who is the next President.

you guys are political hacks, try being objective....

why did you not call obama a chicken for not having 10 townhall style debates/meetings with mccain?

Obama was a chicken for not doing the town hall debates.

He was also wrong to support FISA.

He was also wrong to go back on his word about public financing.

He is still the right man for the job. McCain is old, and given to going to extremes. In the course of ten days going from "the fundamentals of the economy are strong..." to "we may end up in another great depression if I do not go back to washington TODAY" -This from a man who admits he is not strong on economics.

He is not the calm and steady hand that we need at the helm!

And his policies suck too. Aggressive pre-emption overseas, deregulation at home, in the pocket of lobbyists -

And he sold out "country first" by pandering to the religious right by picking a no-experience VP candidate who admittedly has a force field to protect her from witches but who does not know squat about foreign policy....

Obama is the man.

Disagree. He is NOT the right man for the job. Neither of them are, but he less so than McCain.

Obama doesn't know jack about economics, energy and he's a leftwing wannabe-socialist. End of story. McCain is the lesser of two evils.

McCain has not voted in the Senate since April.

McCain looks like he is socialist for wall street. Obama looks like he is socialist for the taxpayer. I'm a taxpayer. I don't see why I have to pay higher taxes, for wall street executives, which is the Bush style of bailout.

I think Obama is better on energy. If we spent the Clinton surplus on sustainable energy we would have no (or very littel) dependence on foreign oil NOW.

Hubby and I spent our rebate check in 2002 (or whenever) on new lamps. Nice lamps, but we would rather the budget surplus had gone to something a little further-sighted, like national security.

McCain wants to drill even though it makes no sense mathematically. It increases our output from 2% of global supplies to 4%, in something like 15 years. That's if we drill everywhere we can. The people who own the rigs may be overseas investors. The drill baby drill stinks to me.

The "Bush style bailout" is pure socialism, regardless what you want to call it. The government buying into the private sector and assuming private debt. I suppose you think Obama would have a better plan? Do note, as of yet, he hasn't said squat, but he'll be a good little Dem and go back to Congress and vote the way he's told.

Obama has no clue on energy. He said inflating your tires properly would offset any oil from drilling offshore. About as ignorant as it can get.

It makes perfect sense to drill. We have no viable alternative source of energy. 85% of our natural resources still lay underground because of people who think it makes no sense to drill. We used to lead the world on 15% of our capability.

we have the capabliity to own the market; yet, for whatever reason, people say "it makes no sense." I guess if you want to ride a horse as your means of personal conveyance, it doesn't.

We also need to explore other means of energy. This is where I point out that if Carter had started something real in that regard, we'd have a 30 year leg up on it and if Clinton had allowed us to drill, that "it'll take 10 years (that really is 5-7 years)" would be past 2 years ago.

I'll take 4 more years of nothing changes over another 4 years duplicating the Carter Administration. No thanks.

Obama was correct on energy conservation. Even McCain agreed with him on that. You are the one who is ignorant.

There is no mandated difference in rights or power, although Senate rules give more power to senators with more seniority. *

Some of the perquisites of seniority offered by the U.S. Senate:

Senators are given preferential treatment for committee assignments based on seniority. Although the committee chairmanship is an elected position, it is traditionally given to the most senior senator of the majority party serving on the committee. Ranking member (called Vice-Chairman in some select committees) of a committee is the most senior member of the minority party thereon.
Greater seniority enables a senator to choose a desk closer to the front of the Senate Chamber.
Traditionally, seniority brings with it greater clout. As a result of this, it is fairly difficult for the more junior members of both houses of Congress to have a significant impact on policy.

John McCain is a sitting United States Senator, as is Barack Obama, John McCain is a Senior Member of the republican caucus as well as a Senior member of the US Senate, unlike Barack Obama. However, Barack Obama nor John McCain has renouced their seats in the Senate to run for president, and as such his decision to go back to Washington showed is ability to set aside his ambitions for the White House to the duty he and heres the key folks "SWORE AN OATH TO". I find it rather two faced for the democratic leadership. namely Harry Reid to chastise John McCain for Not being in the US Senate in July.

"I should mention how glad my fellow Democrats and I were to have our nominee for president here to vote on these important bills. Senator Obama has come to work and taken tough stands. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Senator McCain," Reid groused. "Perhaps taking tough stands on important issues is not part of Senator McCain's campaign strategy." Harry Reid

So then he comes to work on what is likely one of the most important issues facing this country in a while and now what do you get.

I understand that the candidates are putting together a joint statement at Senator Obama’s suggestion. But it would not be helpful at this time to have them come back during these negotiations and risk injecting presidential politics into this process Harry Reid

yup, typical political hacks, only they are so full of it they do not realize their lies...but they don't have to worry, the media is in their camp

Plus on Obama's energy Plan, I have two web Sites I am going to put here, one is Obama's Whole energy plan, which calls for mandated FLEX fuel in all new cars, upgrading new homes, hardly nothing with nuclear until they come up with a new way to store the by products. It also mentions very little of the vast amounts of coal , or natural gas we have in this country, other than at my count 4 fields. For a person that spends a lot of time with T-Boone Pickens he has not spent much time reading Pickens Plan. I will put both of their plans up so you can compare. The difference is pretty striking. Pickens say's in his plan we cannot just drill our way out of the problem but here is the keyword, he calls for the USE of ALL our resources to break our dependance on foreign oil.

• Create New Job Training Programs for Clean Technologies. The Obama‐Biden plan will
increase funding for federal workforce training programs and direct these programs to
incorporate green technologies training, such as advanced manufacturing and weatherization training, into their efforts to help Americans find and retain stable, high‐paying jobs. Barack Obama and Joe Biden will also create an energy‐focused youth jobs program to invest in disconnected and disadvantaged youth. This program will provide youth participants with energy efficiency and environmental service opportunities to improve the energy efficiency of homes and buildings in their communities, while also providing them with practical skills and experience in important career fields of expected high‐growth employment. Participants will not only be able to use their training to find new jobs, but also build skills that will help them move up the career ladder over time.
Make our Cars, Trucks and SUV’s Fuel Efficient

Thats in the Obama Plan..

PickensPlan: The Plan

Natural gas is our country's second largest energy resource and a vital component of our energy supply. 98% of the natural gas used in the United States is from North America. But 70% of our oil is purchased from foreign nations.
