My question is ..... did he take those pictures himself? I am not doubting the authenticity but rather the motivation for taking them. Official documentation or personal, morbid enthusiasm? And why did he keep them all of those years? I had a couple of photos from Vietnam but I destroyed them by the time I reached 40.

I doubt he took them himself there were official photographers there so maybe he got them from one of those, here are a couple of them i have others the picture of the two soldiers my Dad is the guy on the right, as to keeping them well they will be of historical value maybe to a museum one day.

If "official photographers" were there then I fail to see how the photos that your father copied will be needed by the museum.
