DeSantis signs controversial bill banning kids under 14 from opening social media accounts

That's already illegal. Streaming porn and just having a social media account are two entirely separate things.
If you have access to social media, you have access to porn. Porn however does not create specific algorithms to target children, social media does.

I don't understand your objection. How would this law interfere with your ability to raise your children as you please?

So, keep your children off of it then. Problem solved.

I plan to keep my young children off of social media actually it's just that it's none of the government's business is all.

If I froze my embryo 15 years ago, does that mean it can have a social media account in Florida?

Good for you and good luck with that. But I ask again, how would this law interfere with your ability to raise your children as you please? In any way whatsoever?

It doesn't but I still have a problem with the government trying to take control of things and raise other people's kids, that's all.

“With the state preparing for a legal challenge from the tech industry, Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday signed a controversial bill aimed at keeping children off social-media platforms.

“You better believe, I am going to fight like hell to uphold this in court,” Attorney General Ashley Moody said during a bill-signing event in Jacksonville.

Lawmakers this month overwhelmingly passed the bill (HB 3), which House Speaker Paul Renner, R-Palm Coast, made a priority of the annual legislative session. The bill, in part, seeks to prevent children under age 16 from opening social-media accounts on at least some platforms — though it would allow parents to give consent for 14- and 15-year-olds to have accounts. Children under 14 could not open accounts.”

Children should not have access to all social spaces.
I would prefer a simple ban on all social media account for kids under 16 and parental consent for 16 through 21

Funny how conservatives don’t think teenagers deserve freedom of speech.

Why do you need to infringe on their rights because other people are criminals?
I dont think groomers and pedos are the only threat to children

The internet is a cesspool of violence and pornography

The perfect platform to poison young minds

Not to mention a place for children to attack and belittle other kids at a vulnerable time in their lives

This is a good start that does not go far enough

Because I don't want them groomed, molested or raped.

Seems to be a serious situation lately
Authoritarian helicopter parents leading to helpless kids who accept constant surveillance and monitoring is also a serious situation.

Teaching kids responsible use of media is far wiser.

Either way, not the government’s place to deprive kids of rights.

So you think it’s the government’s job to decide how to raise my kids?
