Ah yes. The famous false equivalency argument.
At least you admit the January 6 folks were trying to overthrow the Government.
If the shooter had survived he would have gotten Life in Prison. But he died in a shootout with the cops. Among whom were the same Capital Police the RW pummeled and battered and even killed a few years later.
But the 6th January is a first. It is one where the actions are downplayed. Even disguised behind the terms. It was an attempted Coup DāEtat. An effort to steal power from the elected Government of the People.
The 6th is different. You donāt see a large group out cheering and downplaying the moron who shot the Republican playing Baseball. You donāt see people claiming the guy who shot Gabby Giffords was a hero. You donāt see people claiming that Laughtner was a hero for shooting Giffords.
But find a Trump Fanboy who denounced the attempted Coup on 6 January. When you point out what they were trying to do, all you get is false equivalency arguments. Oh they were no worse than and certainly better than the protests in Portland. Oh they didnāt hurt near as many cops as Antifa did.
The problem is that the extremes are taking over. Theyāre cheering the crimes of their side because the other side is the enemy. And anything you do to hurt the enemy is good.
January 6 was an attempted Coup. We canāt fix things in this nation so long as we deal in lies. And the first lie we need to get rid of is the idea that the idiots at the Capital on January 6th were Patriots and good people. If they are not traitors, they are at least cousins to treason.
