Except that was never going to happen. If any of the rioters on January 6th seriously thought they might be able to beat or kill enough Politicians to get Trump certified as the President, they should be committed to a psychiatric institution, not sent to prison. But I don't believe they did think that. They rioted to express their anger, just like the thousands of 2020 rioters.
To come up with a bizarre scenario to make one group more guilty than the other is absurd.
Severity of the crime is often a major issue. Letās take something simple. Drugs.
A corner dealer is a drug dealer. But not that big of a deal. There are thousands like him in the state, hundreds of thousands, if not millions in the nation. It just isnāt that big of a deal. Oh if you catch him heāll have a few ounces, perhaps even a pound. But he isnāt a big deal. If you arrest him, someone else will be selling on the same street corner in a half hour.
On the other hand the drug lord is. He deals in tons of the illicit substance. And getting him is the focus of hundreds of agents and cops. Getting him means the opportunity to deal a major blow to the entire organization. Same thing, drug dealer, but severity is much different.
Arresting one is a minor victory, if that, in the war on drugs. Arresting the other, is a major victory or so it would appear. Those of us old enough to have seen it before know that the drug lord will have his organization rebuilt by another, eventually, and it wonāt happen in the half hour, but it will happen.
Again, what is the goal of the āprotestorsā. That is the defining question. And yes, those idiots actually thought that they could overturn the election. They actually believed that if they could just purge the Government of the Deep State allies and actors they could put Trump into office for another four years.
Look at it now. Nearly a year later, and what are we still discussing? The idiocy of the stolen election crap. The morons are still convinced that the Earth really is flat as one example of the level of idiocy involved.
These fools really believed it. They spent months arguing that if they could prove the election was stolen, Trump would be returned to power. At least now they are arguing that Trump will be Elected in 2024 instead, but really, their grasp on reality is at best fleeting.
Severity is always a part of the discussion. It would be idiocy to spend years worth of man hours to arrest one street corner dealer. It might be worth it to spend that kind of time for a drug lord. I personally question it, but that is my opinion.
The protests in Portland, and the rest of the cities are annoying, but hardly a threat to the nation. Idiots who want to overthrow the Government, even if their plan such as it is, is idiotic and wonāt work, is a larger threat, and far more severe, and should be considered as such.
