Democrats have lost their traditional advantage as the party of the middle class, according to new CNN polling that left the network's own data analyst expressing disbelief at the scope of the shift toward Republicans on economic issues.

The polling represents a fundamental realignment in American politics, erasing decades of Democratic dominance on middle-class representation just as the party prepares for crucial 2026 midterm elections.

CNN polling released Monday shows the parties now tied when voters are asked which represents the middle class12. The result marks a stunning reversal from 1989, when Democrats held a 23-point advantage on the question, or even 2016, when they led by 17 points12. By 2022, that lead had shrunk to just four points12.

"They have traditionally been the party of the middle class. No more!" CNN's Harry Enten said during Monday's broadcast1. "Donald Trump and the Republican Party have taken that mantle away."

Republicans also maintain an eight-point lead when voters are asked which party is "closest to your economic views," virtually unchanged from an 11-point advantage in November 202312. A separate Reuters/Ipsos poll shows Republicans expanding their economic advantage to 12 points, up from nine points in May 202423.

Comment:
I thought that the middle class voters were already voting Republican.
The Republicans are much closer to the center than the Democrats.
The Democrats are a coalition of the fringe who loath mainstream society.

The Democrats actually hate the Middle Class.

To quote B. Hussein O, when questioned about suburbia, the habitat of the Middle Class "Suburbia bores me".

The libs want to pack people into the failed inner cities where they can ride the bus and go to medicaid clinics.

Not live in a cul-de-sac, drive an SUV and pay your own kid's orthodontist bills.

It's hard to vote for people who don't anymore hide that they hate you.

If you want to work and support yourself, democrats hate you.

If you want to keep illegals out, democrats hate you.

If you don’t want a male to beat the shit out of your daughter in sports, the democrats hate you.

I could go on but you get the point. Anything the average American wants is the exact opposite of what the democrats want to force on you.

Americans of all incomes hate democrats

Democrats have never polled lower.

Americans don't hate democrats enough.

Democrats are literally traitors working with the WEF on a plot to intentionally collapse America

Democrats ÷ traitors

Can anyone come up with a single democrat stance on anything that is based on an individual person making their own choices and living with them?

I can’t think of a single thing the democrats are for that isn’t forcing you into their group think.

In the world of democrat's ideology, there are two classes of people. Rich powerful elite democrat millionaires and democrat celebrities. The other class is the lower low class poor ignorant laborers who slave away to pay taxes
